Cornwall Insight is a leader in research, analysis, consulting, and training in the energy markets. We are seeking an Energy Modelling Analyst to join our Modelling team.
The Role
As a Modelling Analyst, you will be responsible for supporting the wide range of modelling activities conducted across the business focusing on the wholesale and retail energy markets related to electricity and natural gas in GB and Ireland.
As part of the modelling team, you will be required to proactively support the business by ensuring all reports and projects are underpinned by robust analysis and that the best practices are used for data sourcing, storage and manipulation.
You will also be called upon to scope and deliver rigorous and complex bespoke modelling work for specific projects or reports.
This role can be based in either Norwich, London, with the option for remote working too.
Key Responsibilities
- Working with the modelling team and stakeholders across the business to develop and maintain suitable models to support the highest value and complex analytical requirements of the business.
- Take responsibility for model updates for assigned core reports, leading on updating inputs, rerunning and checking models, analysing outputs and drafting reports based on the conclusions drawn.
- Maintain up to date documentation for Cornwall Insight’s models and data sources and identify gaps, inter-dependencies, overlap, redundancy, and replication.
- Make use of the existing data and models and develop new models as required to help deliver new core reports, insight and content or specific streams of consultancy work.
- Assist in establishing best modelling practices across the business, maintaining version and content controls, peer review and comprehensive documentation for all supported models.
Skills Knowledge and Expertise
- You will need strong problem-solving ability, demonstrating flexibility and creativity to assess the differing approaches that could be taken, and be able utilize a range of computational and statistical techniques to reach the desired outcome.
- You will be comfortable working both independently and collaboratively, in a fast-paced environment, and be able prioritise your work schedule.
- You will have strong communication skills, being able to effectively engage with internal and external stakeholders and lead discussions around complex ideas with audiences of all levels of expertise.
- You will need to be proficient with Microsoft Excel. This is a highly technical role and will involve being able to work with a variety of tools and applications. It would also be desirable to have experience of scripting with one or more programming language (such as Python, R, and Visual Basic) and working with large datasets in a database structure.
- You will need a keen interest in the energy industry and economics.
