    We have an exciting opportunity to join our leading edge graduate programme for a Graduate Project Engineer to start in September 2023.

    This role will enable the Graduate to develop in the Planning function within the Construction Industry. The role will involve creating, maintaining, and reviewing programmes of work. Ensuring that projects are completed on time and within budget. Liaising with Quantity Surveyors, Engineers and Designers to gather information. Producing progress reports and forecasts for team members, clients and stakeholders.

    The role will be based in Horsham but will require weekly site visits.

    About the project

    CMDP, a Joint Venture between Costain and MWHT, have secured a further 5 years of work with Southern Water for their AMP7 programme of works (2020 to 2025).  Working predominantly in the East of Southern Water’s region the scale of the works is likely to be greater than £350m and will comprise of multiple sites across Kent and Sussex on both clean and dirty water sites. 

    The AMP7 model has been transformed to enable a more efficient and collaborative way of working. Such a model requires the best people to be working in the concept and definition project phases through into delivery arriving at the most economical solutions to meet the Clients regulatory requirements.  The programme delivery approach will require a blend of both programme delivery and project expertise across all disciplines. 

    CMDP are really excited about the journey with Southern Water and are seeking the best people to ensure we can function efficiently and professionally across all phases of the newly transformed Asset Lifecycle Process. 

    Key responsibilities

    • Collection of all data required to prepare NEC3 or NEC4 and Works Order Compliant Schedules
    • Raising of activities and coding structure in the propriety software Primavera P6
    • Co-ordination of logical links between engineering, procurement and construction across individual projects and programmes of work
    • Calculation of activity durations from estimates and critical path identification
    • Liaison with the procurement department and suppliers regarding equipment required on site dates
    • Liaison with site management and subcontractors for site execution timings
    • Level 3 & 4 updating from: engineering, procurement & site planner feedback
    • Scheduling of Programme activities on a weekly, bi-weekly, monthly basis
    • Input/production and issue of weekly updated 6 week look-ahead schedules
    • Programme Risk Analysis and What-If scenario exercises
    • Production and distribution of reports & graphics, including forecasting
    • Attendance at relevant project, progress and planning meetings

    Graduate programme

    The programme will focus on helping you to grow your personal and leadership skills, alongside business and of course, the technical skills you will learn day-to-day on the job. The programme is delivered in a variety of formats throughout the 2 years and will allow you to establish a network of contacts that will help and support you through your first 2 years and beyond.

    We expect some of our graduates to rotate after a period of 8-12 months, to another project/sector of the business to fully understand the depth and breadth of the services offered by the company. Our line managers are fully supportive of the Graduate Development Programme and will be involved in helping you along the way.

    In addition to the programme, we offer mentoring and support in every area of work, as well as a structured training programme to enable graduates to work towards achieving Chartership.

    Graduates may have the opportunity to work on a number of exciting and progressive projects around the UK during the 2-year period, in sectors including nuclear, highways, rail, water, airports and tunnels.

    About you

    • You will have or expected to achieve a good result in a relevant engineering degree discipline 
    • Have passion for Costain's Carbon Net Zero targets 
    • IT proficient 
    • Able to work accurately and appreciate its importance to the team 
    • A willingness to learn with appropriate instruction 
    • Excel at building and maintaining positive relationships 
    • The ability to thrive in pressured situations

    • Mobility to work on various projects over the 2-year programme throughout the UK

    As some of our project sites are based in remote locations, it is worth noting that you will be required to have the ability to travel to site
