Coty is a global cosmetics organisation with a huge Manufacturing Plant in Ashford, Kent.

Our manufacturing site is the home of engineers, scientists, technicians, and product developers to name just a few. We are keen to open our doors to new talent. We have permanent opportunities for those who want to join us on our journey longer term but we have created unique shorter placements for those who may not be ready to leave education yet.

One of the shorter placements available today is within our site engineering team.

    About the role

Here is some more information on what we would be challenging you to complete over the summer period:

To enable high level efficiency of the production and manufacturing operation, equipment needs to be maintained to avoid unplanned stoppages. This activity requires knowledge about the parts which could deter orienting and cause malfunction of the equipment or may stop the equipment to operate. Therefore, we need to identify the critical spare parts requirement for each machine in production and manufacturing area.

An obsolete part is anything that doesn’t work with anything (layman’s definition) or is more than what is actually and practically needed. A critical spare part, however, is another thing altogether. A critical spare part is thought to be anything that will shut the plant down if we don’t have it.

    Proposed process

    1. The Original Equipment Manufacturer documentation is available but does not clearly identify which spare parts are used and which one of the suggested parts aren’t required.

    • Make an electronic copy of the available recommended spare parts list by using OEM spare parts list. The list to be cross checked with engineers in the relevant area and identify which has been used.
    • Working with engineers to identify additional items which aren’t specified by OEM but was necessary to change over time.
    • Compare the list with technical store list and identify the store parts list of each item.
    • With the support of store team identify any item which has been used in last 24 months but not listed.

    2. Identify the criticality of each item based on the direct affect of the equipment operation and potential replenishment of the parts from OEM or from other supply

    • Identify each item’s delivery time.
    • Identify if the item is in stock with the supplier and available, if necessary, in short time or not.
