Why this role is important for CPI’s work?
CPI is delighted to be recruiting for a placement opportunity who will join the established and growing Nanopharmaceutical team within the National Formulation Centre based at NETPark, in Sedgefield.
The Nanopharmaceutical team is a rapidly expanding group utilising knowledge and experience from a diverse range of expertise including advanced drug delivery, pharmacology, medicinal chemistry, colloid science and analytical backgrounds.
The team works across a wide range of drug delivery platforms, including lipid, polymer and inorganic based nanoparticle systems, that encapsulate small molecule and biological actives. This role will aid in the delivery of these projects by supporting in the manufacture and analysis of these materials. You may also be expected to support on projects in other markets, including Home & Personal Care, Food & Drink, Agritech, and Sustainable Materials.
This role is suitable for applicants with a broad range of scientific backgrounds however an interest in nanopharmaceuticals is required.
The role
In this role, you will be assisting the Nanopharmaceutical team with:
- To present and formally report experimental conclusions and supporting data for internal peer review and submission to clients, to agreed timescales and standards.
- To actively engage in hazard studies / SRA studies and discussions, as appropriate to role level.
- To support the set-up, plan and execute experimental / pilot scale runs and analyse, interpret, and report the results of these within agreed timescales and quality standards, and following project/client requirements.
- To take ownership in agreeing to weekly work plans with the line manager, project manager(s) and other relevant stakeholders, and delivering the plan to the agreed schedule.
- To support the maintenance and calibration of equipment to ensure it operates in a safe and efficient manner and is available to meet customer needs.
- To maintain consistent and documented compliance with all relevant Safety, Health and Environmental (SHE), quality and best practice requirements.
- To keep yourself up to date with developments in areas relevant to role, and/or legislative and SHE related changes as communicated by senior colleagues, ensuring understanding of these and any associated new best practice, methods, or techniques.
- To take responsibility for general housekeeping of technical areas, to contribute to a safe and healthy workplace.
Some exciting projects the team have recently worked on are
- MicroSun for the development of a microfluidics-based pilot line for production of nanomedicines.
- Formulation development using novel excipients for improved stability of RNA-LNPs.
- Supporting the RNA Centre of Excellence in obtaining GMP certification from the MHRA, to be the first-of-its-kind UK open-access facility for RNA-LNP clinical supply.
- Establishing the Intracellular Drug Delivery Centre, to accelerate the development of RNA-based medicines, initially focussing on LNPs.
The person we are seeking
You will be studying towards (or have recently completed) a Degree in Chemistry, Biomedical Science or a related field.
Applicants should be enthusiastic, have effective interpersonal skills and be willing to learn to gain hands on/practical experience. The ideal candidate will be committed to, and actively seek opportunities to develop themselves within this new and exciting role.
This position would suit students whose course includes a sandwich year in industry, or those able to take a placement opportunity in industry between academic years.
