Cranleigh is a leading fully co-educational independent boarding and day senior school consisting of around 700 girls and boys of 13–18 years of age. There is also a Preparatory School in close proximity. Cranleigh aspires to be a beacon of excellence in learning and teaching and is committed to the continuing professional development of all employees. The school offers subsidised accommodation to all teaching staff, whether on site or very nearby.
The role
Cranleigh seeks to appoint, for September 2023, a fluent speaker of French, and, ideally, a university graduate to be a French Language Assistant. The successful candidate will hold French speaking lessons with students, either one on one or in small groups. Most teaching will be in Years 12 and 13 but some lessons with Year 9 – 11 students may also be required. This is an opportunity to join a very friendly, ambitious and successful department, as well as taking a full part in the life of this busy boarding school.
About you
The successful candidate will be a fluent speaker of French and, ideally, a university graduate. They will be self-motivated, good humoured and will relish the challenge presented by being part of a cheerful, supportive and successful department.
This post would be ideal for anyone considering a future transition into a career in teaching. No teaching qualifications are necessary – guidance and support will be offered to the successful candidate, who will be flexible, adaptable, innovative and a good team player.
For the right candidate, there will be the possibility to have an additional involvement in the wider life of the school’s co-curricular programme, which may include acting as a tutor to a group of students within a boarding house.
Please read ‘Why teach at Cranleigh?’ to be found below which gives an impression of the ethos to which it is expected that the successful candidate will contribute.
If you have any questions or would like to discuss any aspect of the post informally, please contact Andrew Robinson, Head of French by email in the first instance: adr@cranleigh.org
This is, initially, a fixed term appointment for one year from September 2023 and comes with a salary of circa £18,000. The school may be able to offer shared accommodation for this role under assured shorthold tenancy. All meals whilst on duty are provided. The successful candidate will also receive 17 weeks holiday.
Candidates should state fully what their particular interests are and where they think they can make contributions to the wider life of the school.
