David Zwirner is currently looking for a highly motivated Communication and Photography Intern to join our Internship Program at our London gallery.
Qualified candidates should be personable, organised, motivated, and responsible, with a strong interest in gaining experience in the daily operations of a contemporary art gallery. The candidate should have a basic knowledge of arts publications, Photoshop and be able to operate a DSLR. Please read the specific department descriptions carefully before applying.
Primary responsibilities include
Press:
- Creating press clippings
- Finding gallery mentions and coverage online and in print publications (using Google Alerts, etc), then flagging these with the Marketing and Communications Coordinator
- Assisting with the creation of press reports for exhibitions
- Sourcing relevant print publications from nearby newsagents, or purchasing online where necessary
- Posting books or other packages as necessary to external PR clients & journalists as requested by the Marketing and Communications Coordinator
- Assist when needed at press previews, press conferences, artist book signings, curator tours/talks, and other related events, some of which will take place in the evening
- Assisting in the process of moving the press archive offsite (scan coverage, update spreadsheets, label and consolidate boxes of physical clippings ahead of shipment to storage)
- Researching publications and journalists for possible future profile/feature/review opportunities
Photo tasks:
- Resize, manipulate, and prepare images for server and database
- Take images with a DSLR camera for social media or archival purposes
- Assist with image editing and creation of renderings
- Assist with printing requests for sales purposes
- Updating artwork records with incoming imagery
Archive/Library tasks:
- Support the maintenance and inventory of the London library
- Assist with the research and purchase of reference titles ahead of exhibitions
- Pack books/Archive material to be sent to London Storage or other gallery locations
- Assist with book display along with sale viewings
- Support through walkthroughs and events with AV documentation
Books:
- Assisting David Zwirner Books with ongoing projects as necessary
- Support Gallery Assistant in the maintenance of book inventory where heavy lifting will be occasionally required
Please note that there are general/ad hoc intern tasks included in the role.
To ensure that our interns have a well-rounded and educational experience, we ask for a commitment of 6 months. Our gallery hours are 10AM – 6PM, Mondays through Fridays, with additional hours for occasional events and openings. Only qualified candidates will be contacted. Absolutely no calls or walk-ins, please. Eligibility to work in the UK is essential. Interviews for this position will happen in early September with a start date in mid September.
