DC Thomson’s IDA (Insight, Data & Audience) trainee programme will give you the opportunity, space and real business context to explore many aspects of marketing across our portfolio. Projects will span the country’s best-selling local newspapers, much-loved national magazine brands as well as an evolving digital innovation pipeline.
Over the course of two years, participants will spend time tackling real business challenges with exposure to a wide array of DC Thomson’s people and teams, working as a part of our growth capabilities in rotation:
- Insight, customer and market research
- Data and CRM
- Digital audience development including social media SEO and content strategy,
- Performance marketing and commerce.
Key Responsibilities
Working within a centre of excellence that champions customer-centric strategy development, success will be defined as:
- Insight, customer and market research: contributing to the commissioning, conducting and analysis of quantitative and qualitative user research as well as user testing sessions before contributing to and presenting narratives that convey findings and results to influence decision making across the organisation
- Data, CRM and analytics: contributing by responding to internal information requests and conducting independent analysis to unearth and present actionable insight from customer and/or product data
- Audience development: using insight and analytics to devise customer-centric content strategies across a broad spectrum of on and off-site channels. Implementing these strategies by shaping messaging, creating or briefing the creation of assets and working with editorial teams to plan and optimise around ‘hero’ content campaigns
- Performance Marketing and Commerce: contribute to the success of our subscription and commerce products by examining user journeys, feeding into a pipeline of experiments and making efforts to drive improvements in Life Time Value (LTV) and Average Revenue Per Customer (ARPC) metrics
We’re looking for candidates that are

- Clear communicator, able to present effectively without jargon or exclusionary language
- Interested in consumer media and have a foundational understanding of marketing, publishing or strategy

We are looking to hire 8 candidates for this full-time temporary position, which is part of a 2 year trainee programme, working 35 hours per week. This is a hybrid role offering a blend of home and office working from our Dundee, Aberdeen or London offices.
