Diamond Light Source is the UK’s national synchrotron science facility. By accelerating electrons to near light-speed, Diamond generates brilliant beams of light from infra-red to X-rays which are used for academic and industry research and development across a range of scientific disciplines including structural biology, physics, chemistry, materials science, engineering, earth, and environmental sciences.
About the Role
We now have an opportunity for a Data Analysis Scientist to assist us to incorporate new methods, technologies, and ways of working wherever possible. We are also looking to exploit cloud resources and incorporate AI techniques to help automate and predict associated trends in experimental data, so we need your help to form new software.
The development of synchrotron technology proceeds at a blistering, relentless pace and requires a cutting edge and exceptionally resilient technical estate to facilitate its critical work, turning theoretical science into practical and often life-changing discoveries. To help drive this innovation forward, we now require a Data Analysis Scientist to join the Diamond Data Analysis Group, specialising in the analysis of data acquired from beamlines within the Structures and Surfaces Science Group.
The Data Analysis Group provides a very comprehensive, imaginative, and often complex suite of bespoke software tools written in Java, Python and C++. Our role is to help our scientists capture experimental information, process, and visualise terabytes of multidimensional data on the fly, and apply complex mathematical, fitting, or theoretical models to interpret their results.
About You
Your experience of collecting and transforming requirements, delivering, and designing innovative software will lead to your success. You will be proficient in technologies such as Java, Python and C++, with an understanding of JavaScript and associated relational databases.
You will hold practical experience of the full Software Development Lifecycle and above all, demonstrate a passion to learn and think creatively in the solutions we provide to enable science.
