Our highly respected Renewable department in the UK and Ireland, provides consulting engineers, data insights, deep technology expertise, modelling and software solutions. We do this to enable the successful rollout of renewable power and to deliver the energy transition. We are engaged in all phases, from initial concept evaluation through construction and commissioning into operations, life extension and decommissioning.

Within the Renewables department, our Renewable Projects section is a growing team of almost 60 experts in DNV’s UK & Ireland region. We are actively solving the biggest challenge of our time, the energy transition. We provide specialist consulting and assurance to the renewable industry for on and offshore wind, solar and storage. Through 2024 and into 2025 we are looking to strengthen our teams and expand our capability further into the electrical networks and systems which enable renewable electricity generation.

Our work is primarily focused on helping our clients identify and mitigate the risks associated with their sites to ensure they perform as well as they can. As consultants, driven by the fast-paced energy market, we are asked to solve a wide range of customers’ challenges from equipment inspections to failure investigations and training.

As a Graduate Engineer in renewables, you’ll join a growing team of big thinkers who love investigating and finding innovative solutions to our industry’s most challenging problems.

Working from one of our offices in London, Bristol, Glasgow, you will:

  • Gain a deep insight into onshore/offshore power grids (transmission and distribution) opportunities /challenges as well as renewable energy systems
  • Take a big picture view on the energy transition and what this means for our customers and their supply chains and what this means for our society and the environment
  • Actively engage with clients to understand their challenges deploying renewable energy generation and storage safely, sustainably and effectively
  • Learn how projects are developed and financed from an initial concept through to operation
  • Have the opportunity to work with other discipline teams across DNV to see how we are working together to solve some of the energy industry’s biggest problems

You’ll be stretched but always supported, so don’t worry if renewable energy or some of the terminology is unfamiliar to you, we’ll teach you all you need to know. You will have the opportunity to travel to customer sites across the UK and occasionally overseas, so a flexibility and willingness to undertake this, is essential.

About you

As a Graduate, other than your relevant degree, we don’t expect any prior experience when you join us; However, we want you to bring your passion for the green energy transition.

The most important attributes you can bring are an inquisitive mind, a desire to develop yourself, and a drive to work with our customers to solve their challenges. We try to keep our list of essential requirements to a minimum, but there are a few things needed to qualify for this role:

  • Minimum 2:2 Degree in Electrical/ Electronic, Electrical & mechanical degree, computer engineering degree or physics
  • Interested in working and developing skills in electrical infrastructure projects covering onshore transmission/distribution, offshore transmission, connection and interconnectors, grid code compliance and constraint and curtailment analysis
  • Passion for developing your skills both professionally and personally, including the commitment to complete the appropriate professional registration in your field (Chartership)
  • Excellent numerical, analytical, and problem-solving skills along with the ability to communicate key points clearly and concisely for our customers in written reports, presentations and meetings
  • Proactive, willing to learn new skills, ‘get stuck in’ and undertake work outside your ‘comfort zone’ demonstrating appropriate balance between asking for help and using own initiative to think through the problem
  • Excellent interpersonal and team working skills, confident building professional relationships based on trust and integrity
  • Self-motivated with the ability to plan and prioritise own time and activities, to meet deadlines and achieve project objectives
  • Ideally have some exposure/ experince in: Power system modelling and electrical software experience (DigSilent Powerfactory, PSSE, PSCA, etc) for power grid simulation and studies, i.e. load flow, fault analysis, power quality reliability, grid resilience / islanding, black start / restoration
