Our specialist Jack-Up team is part of the wider Offshore Infrastructure Department here at DNV. The work we do is at the forefront of implementing the green energy transition around the world today, with a focus on the installation and operation of jack-up vessels. Our team provide sophisticated solutions and engineering assessments to support offshore renewable energy installation projects around the globe, as well as ensuring safe operations for our oil and gas customers.

Supporting with the delivery of our customer projects, youll be given real responsibility throughout your time with us, helping develop your skills, knowledge and understanding of the Energy industry, laying the foundations for you to not only develop your career within this fast evolving and dynamic industry, but also make a genuine impact on the future of our planet.
Our opportunity
Based from our central London offices (near /Waterloo/Blackfriars stations). Youll join a diverse group of structural, mechanical and geotechnical engineers who make up our specialist Jack up, Geotechnical, and Floating Structure engineering team.
Ideally commencing in July (or early August) our year-long placements provide a fantastic opportunity to gain invaluable work experience to complement your university studies.
Youll be stretched, but always supported, surrounded by people who want you to thrive, develop and embrace new challenges. And, if you enjoy your time with us, you could be offered the opportunity to join our Graduate Programme at the end of your studies, like many others before you.
During your time with us, you will be given opportunity to:
- Work alongside our world-leading experts, on a variety of high-profile global engineering projects, on behalf of some of the industrys leading organisations
- Perform a range of structural analyses, or site-specific assessments of jack-up units and wind turbine installation vessels, operating under extreme conditions
- Manage your own projects and to work with a high degree of independence, supported by mentors and other senior engineers
- Develop your commercial and project management skills by gaining direct exposure to clients and involvement throughout the project lifecycle
- Participate in client discussions to develop your understanding of the industry, its terminology and our customers challenges
- During the year, we also endeavour to arrange a familiarisation visit for you to a jack-up

About you
Our placement opportunities are aimed at undergraduates looking to develop their skills and experience and share our passion for changing our industry. Apart from that, we love people who demonstrate a real thirst for knowledge, enjoy a challenge and possess the ability to problem solve and engage positively with others.
We keep our list of essential requirements to a minimum, but there are a few things needed to qualify for our placement scheme:
- Studying towards a degree in Civil, Structural, Offshore or Mechanical Engineering
- Demonstrates an interest in offshore and/or renewables industry
- Excellent numerical, analytical and problem-solving skills (experience in Excel or mathematical modelling/programming background will be beneficial, although not essential) demonstrating the ability to produce technical reports detailing clear outcomes of the analysis for customers
- Naturally curious, with a desire to learn new skills displaying a willingness to get stuck in and undertake work outside comfort zone demonstrating appropriate balance between asking for help and using own initiative / think through the problem
- Excellent interpersonal and team working skills, confident in building professional relationships and demonstrates first class written, verbal communication and presentation skills
- Self-motivated with the ability to plan and prioritise own time and activities, to meet deadlines and achieve project objectives
