Are you passionate about data analytics and how this can contribute to improving animal welfare? Do you have experience in using R or Python for data management, analysis, and visualisation? We are looking for a Data Officer who will be responsible for managing, analysing, and reporting on specified data-related tasks and research projects.

    Why Dogs Trust?

We love dogs. That’s why we do whatever we can to make sure every four-legged friend gets the love they deserve. We’ll never put a healthy dog down, so our work is focused on helping dogs in need, supporting owners every step of the walk, and creating a better world for dogs in the future. It’s what we’ve been doing since 1891 and how we’ve grown to become the UK’s leading dog charity, helping 12,000 loyal friends find their forever homes every year.

    What does this role involve?

    As Data Officer, you’ll:

    • work closely with members of the research team to provide data management, analysis, and visualisation to drive forward our ambitious research programme,
    • use natural language processing or machine learning skills to navigate large collections of data, such as survey responses or clinical notes,
    • work flexibly across multiple projects and activities; from extracting data from free text to presenting data outcomes in an insightful manner, the day-to-day of this role is varied and exciting,
    • grow external collaborations, working with other organisations to work towards a shared goal of improving canine welfare.

    What skills do you need?

For success in this role, you’ll need:

    • some experience of natural language processing or machine learning,
    • an interest and experience in data visualization, with the ability to present data in an engaging and meaningful way,
    • to be a confident programmer, across R and/or Python,
    • have an interest in data science and an understanding of how this can contribute to the aims of Dogs Trust.

    What does this team do?

The Research Team was formed to provide capacity to inform our work with robust evidence. Our team of researchers reports to the Director of Strategy and Transformation, supporting other departments by developing and delivering research to support the decisions they make in working with dogs, owners, the wider general public and policy makers.
