About you and this role
We are looking for you, an ambitious Chemical Engineering student, to support our Environmental, Health and Safety Operations Department by doing an internship project in Environmental Management for our location in Barry, Wales, UK.

Specifically, you will be part of a small team of Environmental Professionals who work closely together to support all aspects of Environmental operations at the Barry Site. You will also be part of the wider site based EH&S team.
Our goal is to conduct operations within compliance but also to drive Improvements to help us meet challenging companywide Sustainability goals.
Project description
You will work as a member of the EH&S Operations team directly supporting plant operation, legal compliance and waste management. You will be involved in a range of improvement projects and activities to support compliance and EH&S strategic Improvement goals. The activities range from small improvements to procedures and engineering documents to scoping, planning and executing small process plant upgrades.
You will also support larger projects as a team member as needed through the year. This placement will give you an excellent practical grounding in Chemical Engineering (primarily with an Environmental bias) as it is applied in industry whilst delivering value to the company by executing much needed compliance, project and upgrade work.
Responsibilities
- Permit(s) requirement analysis and compliance plans including documentation strategies and regulatory applicability assessments.
- Facilitates/participates in EH&S incident investigations.
- Interprets and applies environmental regulations and safety standards.
- Implements EH&S management systems in order to add value to the business, meet business objectives and maintain the license to operate.
- Conducts EH&S site bases assessments and takes action to improve performance and praise good work.
- Provides updates to environmental permits and procedures for their plants and implementation of the requirements management work process.
- Provides EH&S expertise to define projects necessary for successful achievement of the corporate EH&S goals.
- Streamlines EH&S work processes by developing/updating operating discipline and associated tools.
Qualifications
- Currently studying for Environmental Management or Chemical Engineering degree.
- Eligible to work in the UK (No visa will be sponsored).
- Ability to use Microsoft Office applications and analyze complex data sets.
- Proven problem-solving ability.
Additional notes
- You are currently studying for a master's degree or equivalent in chemical engineering.
- You have a good working knowledge of English
- You can start in July 2024 for a period of up to 13 months (exact timing to be discussed).
