We are looking for you, an ambitious Mechanical Engineering student, to support our Consumer Solutions business by doing an internship project in our Basics Facility to improve Reliability for our location in Barry, UK.

The role is based at Dow Silicones Barry site in South Wales and is one of the largest and most complex silicones sites in the world. Barry is situated less than 10 miles from Cardiff city center, which is home to Europe's largest waterfront development and combines the practical advantages of a small, friendly city with the cultural and recreational amenities of a successful modern capital.
As Maintenance Engineer you will provide maintenance subject matter expertise on plant issues that impact production over a short period of time. You will provide also technical expertise which may be equipment-based or repair technique-based which impacts the availability and maintainability of the system and/or equipment.
Responsibilities on the job
- Provide experience on failures and repair techniques during root cause investigations. Provide technical expertise to plant personnel on troubleshooting failures, repairs, and evaluating whether equipment is designed to meet its intended or existing service conditions.
- Ensure during repairs that repair details such as clearances, tolerances, materials of construction, welding procedures, etc are provided and documented. Provide technical support as needed.
- Ensure repair techniques, repair procedures, and equipment specific training are documented and made available. Provide technical support for specification, identification and purchasing of needed parts. Provide maintainability input to Global Project Methodology (GPM), Six Sigma and other improvement activities.
- Review spare parts list for existing equipment and works with the Maintenance Recovery Organization (MRO) to ensure parts are identified, added and stocked in the MRO system in support of the maintenance strategy.
- Develop maintenance procedures based on Most Effective Technology (MET). Enter quality complaints into the QSPP system.
- Participate with the Reliability Engineer in developing the equipment maintenance strategy by providing technical and historical information. Participate in developing the maintenance budget to support the maintenance strategy. Serve as a technical resource to the planner on work packages. Provide input on scope of work, during development of turnaround work. Evaluate Condition-Based Monitoring (CBM) activities and determines appropriate action.
Qualifications
- Minimum Bachelor’s Engineering degree is required.
- Plant experience is preferred, but not required.
- Initiative and good communication skills are required.
