Dow Polyurethanes is a global leader in the design and supply of polyurethane (PU) systems, providing tailored solutions for a multitude of customers and applications worldwide. Within the Technical Service & Development Department we are looking for an master’s student for a 12 month period, based at our research and service center in Cheadle, UK. The internship would start in the summer of 2025.
Responsibilities / Duties
Your primary responsibilities will be working safely to develop new products and solutions for new or existing customers and applications. The role will be predominantly laboratory and office based, with the possibility for infrequent travel to participate in external plant and customer trials.
- Formulation of PU systems using existing raw materials and screening of additives.
- Understand and analyze the impacts of changes in formulation and process.
- Recording of experimental information and data, and reporting of results and progress as appropriate.
- Laboratory scale sample preparation using processing equipment or pilot reactors.
Qualifications
You must have completed two years of an master’s degree in chemistry, polymer chemistry or materials science, and be expecting to receive a 2:1 or 1st class degree. In addition, you should:
- Have excellent numeric and good written and verbal skills.
- Be curious, enthusiastic and flexible. Have a strong scientific proactive approach to problem solving in product.
- Characterization and testing, with a keen attention to detail.
- Be efficient, organized and able to work independently.
- Possess effective interpersonal and team-working skills.
