The role
An excellent opportunity has arisen within our Finance department for an Assistant Accountant to join us and be based the Southampton office. Reporting to the CNS Finance Manager, our successful candidate will be responsible for analysing accounting information and assisting with the preparation of management accounts. You’ll also enter transactional records and keeps accounting records up to date according to guidelines and procedures.
Our ideal candidate will be an experienced Assistant Accountant who is Full/part qualified or qualified by experience.
- Assist the CNS Finance Manager and Accountants with the production and analysis of CNS Management Accounts so to aid key peers and other stakeholders with decision making and monitoring of the company’s performance.
- Assist with the production of CNS Budgets, Forecasts and 5-year plans to enable strategic planning and budgetary control.
- Review and ensure that all revenue chargeable on operations and services that the company provides are charged out according to contract.
- Support with the maintenance of CNS Fixed Asset register so to ensure all capital assets are valued and depreciated correctly.
- Assist with CNS Statutory Reporting which includes producing information for production of year end statutory accounts.
- Business partner with stakeholders
- Checking of AP payment runs
- Assist with internal and external audits
- Ad hoc reporting, analysis, project work and other duties as reasonably required.
- The Assistant Accountant – CNS, may also be required to support Accountants with the production of DPWS reports and other duties.
What you will bring
- Part Qualified or working towards a qualification in a recognized accounting qualification /QBE or equivalent
- Knowledge of Accounts payable and receivable
- Experience using Financial system Oracle Fusion will be desirable but not essential
- IT literate, especially good working knowledge of Excel
- Knowledge of preparation of management accounts
- Understanding of VAT will be advantageous
- Must be able to demonstrate knowledge of accruals and prepayments for monthly management accounts.
- Ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines
- Good interpersonal skills and must be able to communicate to all levels of seniority

- Able to interpret financial information
