The purpose of the Finance Graduate Programme is to develop future finance leaders and successors for colleagues within the Group Finance and Commercial Finance teams. This 3-year programme aims to provide a broad range of technical and behavioural skills, alongside practical experience, to enable swift progression and a successful future career in finance.

Throughout the programme, you will report to a member of our Executive Board of Directors. They will work with you to ensure that you are both challenged and supported, giving you a high-level strategic understanding of how we operate. You will also be challenged to work on a series of projects that will add value to our future performance. 

You will have access to a support network of line managers and senior leadership team mentors. They will help support you to get the most from your experiences and to coach you as you progress.

What will your 3-year programme look like?

During the programme it is expected that you will gain a broad range of technical skills and experience through spending time working in a variety of different finance environments and supporting different customer types. This will to enable you to develop technical skills plus gain experience to develop essential soft skills (see below), to allow you to progress your career as a finance professional.

The 3-year programme gives you the opportunity to gain practical experience and supports you in developing a range of soft skills and behaviours. These are key elements of a rounded skill-set and should be given equal attention during the programme to your technical development objectives:

  • FP&A (Month-end & Planning)
  • Financial Accounts
  • Management Information
  • Operations & Logistics
  • Commercial Trading
  • Group Tax & Treasury
  • Accounts Payable/ Accounts Receivable

Training & Support will comprise access to Kaplan for professional qualification tuition, an internal CIMA mentor, a Development Mentor and a Team Buddy, as well as access to a range of internal training courses to support development of behavioural skills.

Dunelm has a study agreement with Kaplan to provide CIMA and ACCA tuition and guidance. 

Your CIMA mentor will talk you through this in more detail. Kaplan (Dunelm’s training partner) will provide you main tuition, revision courses and appropriate learning materials to assist you in gaining your professional qualification. An internal mentor will be nominated to assist you with progressing your studies, answering any questions and liaising with Kaplan as and when necessary. Guidance and advice on when to sit exams, and how to complete log books will also be available. A Development Mentor will be assigned to help ensure you are progressing on the right track and that you have access to the right opportunities internally.

Qualifications

  • You will have a minimum 2:1 Degree (or equivalent) in a Finance or Accountancy related subject
  • You will have a genuine interest in Finance with a desire and ambition to become a future business leader.
  • You will be self-motivated, resilient, ambitious and eager to seek out new learning opportunities.
  • You will have relevant work experience and be able to demonstrate strong commercial awareness and an understanding of general retail principles.
  • You will have high standards of written and verbal communication, as well as advanced analytical skills and problem-solving capability.

You must be ready to start the programme at the beginning of September 2021
