We are looking for outstanding candidates, currently studying towards, or having recently completed a degree level qualification to join us as Finance Interns for a 12-month internship, working across our Finance teams and gaining a rewarding and diverse experience to help their future career progression.
Purpose of the role
To learn to provide a professional and comprehensive finance service including support, advice, guidance, and challenge to a range of council services and managers. The role will be expected to work across the wider Finance services, including Service Finance, Financial Planning & Reporting, Treasury & Tax, and Internal Audit.
Post holders can expect to gain a broad understanding of financial management within the Council, undertaking a range of duties to develop knowledge and experience in finance and public services during their internship.
Key tasks
- Work collaboratively to provide coordinated and comprehensive business and finance support throughout the wider Finance teams on a rotation basis.
- Provide financial support and assurance to key stakeholders, including budget holders and other service managers. This would be undertaken in line with relevant requirements, such as accounting standards and the council’s local financial procedures.
- Support the team to which the post is attached on a rotation basis, as required. The post-holder will be expected to complete finance and related tasks allocated to them as part of their internship.
- Have consideration of and actively contribute towards the overarching Finance objectives, including supporting the implementation of the council’s modernising back-office systems (MBOS) programme.
- Participate in team meetings, demonstrate customer focus, and develop business partnering skills.
- Familiarise themselves with, uphold and promote the aims of the Council's equality and diversity policies in the course of day-to-day work.

- Completed or studying towards a numerate degree level qualification.

Additional information
Your starting salary will be pro rata if the above position is part-time or term-time only.
Work Permits: we may be able to obtain a Work Permit for this post but this is subject to meeting the requirements of the UK Border Agency’s Points-based Immigration System.
