The Equity Funds Team is responsible for EBRD’s investments in funds and the associated post-investment monitoring and portfolio management of these funds. The team works in a way similar to an institutional fund-of-funds manager or institutional investor. It invests primarily in commercially operating private equity, venture capital and infrastructure funds focused on investing in the EBRD countries of operations. EBRD is one of the largest equity fund investors in its investment geography.
The role
The Equity Funds Team is seeking to fill an Assistant Analyst position at the EBRD HQ in London, with the flexibility to work partially from home in accordance with EBRD's current policy. The Assistant Analyst may be expected to join the investment team on business travel.
The Assistant Analyst is expected to predominantly support investment teams across the full investment cycle (see below) and in post investment fund monitoring. The Assistant Analyst will also provide general team support in relation to research and specific ad-hoc tasks. The Assistant Analyst takes responsibility for the tasks assigned to them by the operation leader or more senior members of the Equity Funds Team
Background
The investment cycle involves several stages from the initial review, selection and assessment of a fund investment proposal, various internal approvals, due diligence and legal documentation, followed by monitoring and reporting on the performance of the fund investment.

This is an entry-level position within the Equity Funds Team. A high performer in the role would demonstrate ability to take on progressively more complex tasks and additional responsibilities over time.
Accountabilities & Responsibilities
Working under the supervision of the operation leader or a more senior team member, core responsibilities for this role may include, but may not be limited to, the following:
Structuring and Execution:
- Work as an investment team member on transactions, contributing to aspects of the investment approval cycle, including assisting with the preparation of internal investment memoranda, particularly less complex areas of a memorandum (e.g. tables, charts, annexes).
- Ensure that all tasks assigned to the Assistant Analyst are completed within the specified timeframes, to a high quality, and in line with the policies, procedures and objectives of the Bank.
Portfolio Monitoring, Value Creation and Reporting:
- As requested by the operation leader or a more senior team member, undertake assigned tasks relating to the implementation and monitoring of fund investments to which the Assistant Analyst is assigned, reviewing reports from fund managers, monitoring the fund’s financial performance, and assessing evolving risk factors.
- As requested by the operation leader or a more senior team member, assist with the preparation of timely and comprehensive monitoring reports.
- Monitoring and assessing funds’ covenant compliance, as well as other more administrative aspects of monitoring.
- Provide support to operation leaders and/or more senior members of the team with other ad hoc tasks as required.
- The responsibilities of the Assistant Analyst are designed to allow the Assistant Analyst to progressively undertake more complex tasks and build the scope of responsibilities based on acquired experience and expertise.
Qualification, Skills, Knowledge & Experience
Qualifications and Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree from a leading university in the country of education. Master’s degree or equivalent would be an advantage.
- Developed analytical and numerical skills; ability for logical reasoning and accurate interpretation of data. Attention to detail is critical.
- Business writing skills, with the ability to write well-structured, concise, consistent and accurate long-form documents in professional business English.
- Computer literacy, conversant with Microsoft Office packages, including financial analysis and modelling modules.
- Strong team player, able to integrate into a small multi-national team and able to liaise with different departments within the Bank remotely and in person.
- Ability to work quickly and accurately under pressure, managing multiple tasks to meet varying deadlines.
- Conscientious, reliable, flexible and highly organised, able to prioritise and work independently asking questions where necessary.
- Fluent in English, with good written and oral communication skills.
Experience & Knowledge:
- Relevant financial industry experience would be an advantage (e.g. full-time experience and/or internship(s) with a fund manager, investment bank, asset management firm, or auditing/financial consulting firm operating to international standards).
- Preferable knowledge and/or understanding of the fund-of-fund’s business model and/or emerging markets private equity, venture capital or infrastructure.
- Interest in the mission of EBRD and in private equity, venture capital and/or infrastructure funds as an asset class.
