About our Team
We are seeking an Editorial Section Manager for Heliyon, an all-science, open access, Cell Press journal. This is a fantastic opportunity for a university graduate to start their career in scientific publishing. You will be working within a global team of diverse, dynamic individuals with a range of scientific expertise.
About the Role
As part of our editorial support teams, your primary responsibility is managing one or more of our scientific sections. You will be developing its respective editorial teams and coordinating new and revised manuscripts from submission through publication. You will be in consistent contact with scientific editors, authors, and editorial referees.
Responsibilities
- Ensuring the smooth operation of sections within the journal through collaboration with our international scientific editors.
- Developing the editorial teams of the journal and building relationships with the scientific editors of Heliyon.
- Managing a high volume of internal and external e-mail correspondence, providing exceptional customer service to authors, reviewers, and staff.
- Guiding manuscripts through an online database from initial submission through to final editorial decision.
- Performing technical and administrative checks on manuscripts for compliance with the journal’s standard.
- Monitoring the peer review process with a goal of obtaining timely feedback from editors and reviewers.
- Collaborating with colleagues across the business on projects to improve Heliyon.
Requirements
- Have an undergraduate degree in a medical, life, physical or social science.
- Have exceptional communication in written and spoken English.
- Be enthusiastic, have great analytical skills and the ability to pay close attention to detail.
- Have the ability to adapt to change, handle multiple responsibilities simultaneously and to prioritize.
- Have great interpersonal skills within an international team.
- Be able to work equally well collaboratively or without continuous supervision in a changeable environment.
- Be PC proficient with expertise in Microsoft Office (particularly Outlook and Excel).
