    Role Description

    GEM UK are recruiting for a Trainee Shift Trader to be based in London. This is a 12 month Fixed Term role working 37 hours per week. Working is flexible in relation to office attendance (1-2 days per week) and standard office hours (8:30am - 5pm Monday to Thursday, 8:30am – 4:30pm Friday) are expected.

    Based in Finsbury Circus, London, the Company provides trading services for several internal and external clients in the UK whilst also growing their scope on enabling the energy transition in the UK. We are now seeking motivated individuals who are embarking on their career in energy, to join our team for a fixed term, enabling them to experience energy markets, operations and asset optimisation first-hand. GEM UK is a team of almost 50 people focused on origination, trading, risk management, settlement and delivery of a range of services and activities. This is an exciting opportunity to join the team at a point where we are growing our business and outstanding candidates may have the opportunity to take a permanent role in the Shift Trading team beyond their fixed term.

    This role will enable the successful candidate(s) to kickstart their career in energy at a company that is rapidly realising its growth ambitions in the ever-evolving UK energy markets. This role will also give the successful candidate a unique opportunity to become involved with the optimisation of the UK’s largest electricity storage facility at First Hydro, alongside other activities such as renewables management, gas storage, gas asset optimisation and general energy operations. You will also be part of a global energy management team, with significant opportunity to learn and develop your skills and knowledge.

    Qualifications Skills or Experience Required

    We are seeking numerate, commercially driven graduates of STEM subjects able to:

    • Demonstrate numerate capability;
    • Write clearly and articulate outcomes to a wide audience, fluent in English;
    • Take ownership of issues with confidence, managing to resolution;
    • Understand and deliver solutions to complex problems;
    • Strong attention to detail;
    • Explain how a career in the energy transition meets their personal objectives; and
    • Analyse large data sets with proven coding skills would be advantageous.

    For this role, you must have evidence of the right to work in the UK. There is no re-location package offered with this role.
