About to graduate an engineering degree?
Have an interest in energy and power generation?
Want a role & career path in the beating heart of a power station?
About the role
We’re looking for an engineering graduate to join us in the Operations team at Lynemouth Power Station in Lynemouth, in the Northeast. This role is an important part of succession planning and developing talented people into team leaders and potentially management roles for the future.
The Operations team are the team that turn the station on and off, up and down and keep it running safely and efficiently. Sounds fairly straight forward? It’s a lot more intricate that you might first think.
Lynemouth started life as a coal fired power station to supply electricity to an aluminium smelter. When EPUKI bought the station in 2015, we immediately invested almost £0.5bn in decarbonising the site which has now been fully converted to sustainable low carbon biomass wood pellets.
Continuing on the station’s evolution, future opportunities for the station include Biomass with Carbon Capture and Storage which would produce negative carbon emissions, significantly helping the UK on its journey to Net Zero. This is a career with a tangible impact to the world around you.
The Operations team develop station running plans, work with the trading team to agree when the station should be available to generate electricity. You’ll make commercial, technical and safety decisions that ensure that we always operate in compliance with our safety and environmental licenses.
You’ll optimise equipment and processes using your engineering knowledge. You’ll also manage the safe systems of work on site, ensuring that all maintenance activities are carried out to the highest safety standards.
This really is a role and a career to be proud of
While learning on the job, you’ll be the glue that pulls everything together on site, using your technical engineering knowledge as well as your problem-solving skills and your ability to think on your feet to make quick and correct decisions.
In this role you’ll learn all aspects of the operations department with the aim of further development in to assistant and then team leader roles. The team works 24/7. You’ll start in the role working Monday to Friday but fairly quickly you’ll work a shift pattern alongside the team. You’ll receive a shift allowance on top of your salary once you start working on shift.
You’ll either be graduating in 2024 or have recently graduated from a relevant engineering degree (Electrical, Control & Instrumentation, Mechanical or Process Engineering) and have an interest in the energy industry and power generation. You’ll also need a UK drivers' licence.
Whoever fills this role will be a future leader for the team so during the selection process we’ll be looking for a blend of technical knowledge and critical soft skills that make a great leader.
In your application we'd love to understand why you have an interest in energy generation, and why this role is of interest to you to help us select the best person for the opportunity.
Apply today to find your future with EPUKI.
