As an Equans graduate you will have the exciting opportunity to experience the diverse and interesting world of one of the UK’s biggest facilities management organisations.

Starting in September, you will join our induction with all the other graduates in your cohort to start building your network and understanding of the Business before your specific placement commences. During your scheme, you will experience operational and functional roles alongside our engineering teams. Your time on the graduate scheme will span across a 2-year period, and you will complete between two to four rotations of either 6 or 12 months in length depending on the project type and department. You will need to be fully mobile as the placements could be based anywhere within the UK.

The role

Our Engineering teams deliver an incredibly wide range of technical services to our clients all over the country. You could be a part of one of our largest facilities management contracts, where we work in partnership with some of the UK’s biggest hospitals, universities, and schools. Alternatively, you could be helping to mobilise one of our newest contract wins. A life in Engineering is never dull, and as a Equans graduate you will gain experience in what it takes to manage large complex engineering projects and diverse teams in a fun and rewarding industry.

As a Building Services Engineering Graduate, you will rotate across different areas, predominantly in our Sustainable FM division, in order to develop your technical, people & project management skills. The placements will either be within our central engineering and compliance function, or on our operational sites.

You will have the opportunity to gain experience, and put your engineering credentials to the test, in various customer sectors, which may include:

  • Corporate environments
  • Manufacturing and Industrial
  • Healthcare and Blue Light
  • Nuclear
  • Education

Responsibilities

Some of the roles and responsibilities you may undertake during your rotations could be:

  • Supporting the central Engineering & Compliance team train, assess and appoint our engineers to carry out complex isolation activities
  • Audit our contracts for compliance with our contractual maintenance obligations and ensuring the adequate application of our engineering safe systems of work
  • Assist our contracts in the planning of complex engineering activities, e.g. shutting down areas of our hospitals to carry out intrusive electrical testing and inspection
  • Following training given on the scheme, fulfil the role of a Contract Responsible Person, for the management of our Water or Gas systems
  • Development and build of our Asset management & Planned Maintenance systems, when mobilising a new contract

Or working on specific projects for a cluster of operational contracts, for example:

  • Revalidating hospital operating theatre ventilation systems
  • Planning and overseeing the completion of High and Low Voltage breaker maintenance, carried out by a contractor
  • Planning and overseeing the statutory inspections of steam boilers

We will provide a wide variety of training opportunities to develop your engineering, leadership, and management skills, so that you can excel, and be ready for an Engineering Management role following the end of the scheme.

You will be encouraged and supported to apply to become a member of relevant engineering institution and assisted in navigating a route to professional registration as an Incorporated or Chartered Engineer. From day one you will have a buddy, usually a graduate in the year above, and you will also have a mentor throughout the scheme.

  • A degree in Building Services Engineering, or, apprentice qualified in a relevant discipline, with work experience
  • A genuine interest in our industry, and a passion for delivering real change in the communities we serve

  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to lead, motivate and inspire others at all levels

Desirable:

  • Previous work experience, ideally within a relevant field
  • Previous customer services experience
  • A full UK driving licence

Shortlisted candidates will be invited to a telephone interview. Those successful at telephone interview will progress to the final stage and be invited to participate in one of our assessment centres taking place in June 2024.
