    Essar Oil UK is a leading UK-focussed downstream energy company whose main asset is the Stanlow Manufacturing Complex, one of the most advanced refineries in Europe and situated close to the major cities of Liverpool and Manchester. Stanlow is a key strategic national asset, annually producing over 16% of the UK’s road transport fuels, while playing an important part in Britain’s petrochemical industry by providing key feedstocks.

    The business is a major supplier in the North West and beyond with customers including most of the major retail brands operated by international oil companies and supermarkets, Manchester Airport, leading commercial airlines and the region’s trains and buses.

    The business covers crude and product trading, refinery operations, HSE implementation, maintenance support and technological services, together with marketing and retail activities.     Essar is committed to playing a key role in the decarbonisation of the UK economy, with ambitious plans to build a green energy industrial cluster at Stanlow. These include the construction of two new low carbon hydrogen production units on site as part of the HyNet consortium, with a planned total investment of approximately £750m to deliver the hydrogen production hubs. Follow on capacity growth is planned to reach 80% of the UK Government’s new target of 5GW of low carbon hydrogen for power, transport, industry and homes by 2030.

    Rotational Graduate Programme

    A three-year programme, consisting of placements designed to provide a breadth of exposure across a focus of the business. The rotational style of the programme is designed to give you a rounded view and exposure within related functions of the business, whilst allowing you the opportunity to learn, understand and support the functions you operate within during your programme. Your Graduate Programme will be designed to broaden your skills and interests as well as reflect Essar’s business needs and your development areas.

    The first rotation of the programme will be 24 months within the Technology department to allow you to get a deep insight into the workings and processes of the production units and responsibilities of the chemical engineers on site. The chemical engineers within the Technology department are responsible for a wide range of activities associated with supporting refinery unit production such as; monitoring and assessing refinery units’ performance and providing technical advice and recommendations.

    A second rotation will build on and expand the knowledge gained in Technology and focus on either, Economics, Scheduling and Planning (EPS), International Supply and Trading (IST), HSSE and Assurance. The EPS and IST areas work closely with the refinery operations and business plan to buy the raw materials and schedule the production of the various products.

    The Graduate programme is accredited by the Institution of Chemical Engineers and Graduates are actively encouraged to work towards Chartered Status with the IChemE. You will be assigned an IChemE Chartered mentor from within Technology who will support you in taking the first steps towards Chartership.

    This programme will allow the successful Graduate to see the process life cycle of our products, as well as providing solid technical knowledge as the foundation for a successful career at Essar Oil UK.

    About You

    Our ideal candidate will be a Graduate with a relevant Degree in a related field with at least a 2:1 Grading. Our ideal candidates will be highly driven, dedicated and focused individuals, who are willing to learn and develop within Essar. They will be required to be highly literate, with exceptional IT skills in Microsoft programmes.

    Successful candidates will be required to be confident communicators, both in written and verbal styles, and hold the confidence to present to a wide variety of Stakeholders; both internally and externally. Resilience and willingness to take responsibility will be highly sought after characteristics within our successful candidate.

    Please note candidates who pass the first screening stage will be required to attend an onsite selection day in early 2023.
