    Evotec (UK) Ltd is currently seeking enthusiastic and talented chemistry undergraduates to join us in our Discovery Chemistry department based in our Dorothy Crowfoot Hodgkin Campus in Oxfordshire. The department is at the heart of Evotec’s global business and is at the forefront of new science and technology. We work closely with our partners, and within fundamental research and innovation projects, to develop novel small molecule drugs.

    As a Placement Student within the Discovery Chemistry department, you will have a passion for synthetic organic chemistry and drug discovery, plus a willingness to learn new skills and to develop existing ones. This is an excellent opportunity to work with and learn from experienced medicinal and synthetic chemists from a range of different scientific and cultural backgrounds alongside access to a wide range of Evotec training programs.

    Furthermore, you will be involved in a dynamic and exciting research environment utilising cutting-edge equipment, technologies and methodologies to develop new treatments for diseases.

    Placement Responsibilities

    • Supporting a project team by conducting chemistry experiments towards multi-step targets with clearly defined objectives and timelines.
    • Contributing to the design of synthetic routes towards challenging and novel targets.
    • Collecting, analysing and interpreting analytical data, such as 1D/2D NMR and LCMS data, and applying it to identify reaction products and determine purities.
    • With the help of other team members, adapting scientific knowledge and understanding to solve research problems encountered.
    • Accurately document synthetic activities using an electronic lab notebook in accordance with company guidelines.
    • Presenting updates on own work in regular team technical meetings.
    • Ensuring safe working practices are followed and complying fully with the company safety policy.
    • Reading scientific literature relevant to the project.

    Desirable Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

    • Knowledge of basic laboratory techniques and understanding of the science underlying the techniques and experiments.
    • Self-motivated, enthusiastic, cooperative and reliable.
    • Good organisational and time-management skills with the ability to work accurately, with attention to detail.
    • Ability to work well independently, and as part of a team with good interpersonal and verbal communication skills.
    • Computer proficiency.
