Role and responsibilities
As our IT Systems & Support Engineer, you will be based at our Abingdon site, where IT infrastructure is at the forefront of our commercial business, and this role is critical in helping to maintain the delivery of that technology, providing support services – through effective team engagement, great communication with the science user base, General IT administrative and understanding of IT infrastructure.
The successful candidate will be experienced in service delivery. This role is mainly office based, with some flexibility of hybrid working one days a week.
Key responsibilities
- Assist the IT Helpdesk Team Leader in the management of the Company’s IT services; in particular providing support and operational services.
- Supporting MS Active Directory, ideally with experience in multi-forest environments. To include excellent knowledge of MS Group Policy.
- Day-to-day management of the service desk, including triaging & expediting helpdesk workload and tickets.
- Perform IT Operations and security checks as and when required.
- Maintain the PC and laptop estate including deployment of software & the role out of new PCs/laptops when required.
- Maintain proper records of the work carried out and to report on such work as required.
- Train users of the IT services in the use of those services
- Provide at appropriate intervals feedback on the work in progress to those concerned.
- Proactive in improving own ability in such a way as to contribute to the success of the IT Department by the acquisition and application of new and appropriate skills.
- Adhere to the relevant aspects of the company and the IT Department’s procedures (in particular the Company’s Health and Safety policy and relevant GxP policies).
- Ensure the confidentiality of any information brought to his/her attention during the performance of work.
- Undertake the duties outlined above and other duties as directed by the IT Helpdesk Team Leader and from time to time carry out any additional tasks as may be required to support the business.
Essential skills & competencies
- Previous experience & responsibility for Client hardware and software installation, maintenance, and repair
- Able to support and resolve end users with their PC problems.
- Good understanding and experience of Microsoft operating systems and MS office.
- A natural enjoyment of collaborating with people.
- The ability to work well independently without supervision or as part of a team.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including remote interactions, as well as good organisational and time management abilities.
- Strong attention to detail and excellent data capture and analysis standards as well as written and oral presentation skills.
- Enthusiastic and flexible, positive ‘go the extra mile’ approach.
Education and experience
- 1 years’ experience in a relevant IT corporate support services environment.
- Good knowledge of corporate IT Operations and Support Services, proficient using Microsoft Office, Jira. Desirable knowledge of 365 and SharePoint, metrics 42.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and attention to detail is key to our role.
- Agile; able to work with conflicting priorities and respond positively to changing demands.
- The ability to work without supervision and quickly grasp new technical concepts
- A good understanding of workstations and Microsoft platforms and software (up to MCP level)
