What You’ll do:

Along your journey you will make an immediate impact on reimagining the way people search for travel as part of an exciting team that will help invent brand-new techniques to bring the world within reach. From building pipelines and prototyping new ML models with A/B testing to applying new techniques to services that run tens of thousands of requests per second, there is no shortage of opportunities for technical innovation at Expedia Group – the sky’s the limit! We are hiring across multiple teams therefore the role may differ dependent this. You will be involved in some of the following:
- Apply statistics methods like confidence intervals, point estimates and sample size estimates to make sound and confident inferences on data and A/B tests.
- Apply Natural Language models to Google keyword analysis and applying meta models to our multi-objective ranking problem.
- Build and manipulate large data sets to design algorithmic and machine learning solutions as well as provide business insights.
- Apply solid coding skills, strong analytical and innovative thinking, and Machine Learning expertise to quickly learn new domains and turn innovative ideas into working solutions
- Communicate complex analytical topics in a clean & simple way to multiple partners and senior leadership (both internal & external)
- Develop foundational solutions by standardizing software libraries/packages
- You will spend large amounts of time in feature engineering modifying existing models/techniques to suit business needs.
- You may develop domain expertise in fraud & risk to understand how to detect risky transactions. Work with state-of-the-art Machine Learning tools to improve our existing detection systems and build new models as we expand into additional domains
- Model rich and complex online travel data to understand, predict and optimize business metrics to help improve the traveler experience.
- Frame business problems as a data science problem and concrete set of tasks
- Apply your domain (i.e. travel, online retail) knowledge, business acumen (understanding the underlying business objectives), and critical reasoning skills to your work.

- Must be graduating in 2022 with a Master’s or PhD degree in a technical, or analytical-related, subject such as Computer Science (with focus in areas like Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Natural Language Processing, Data Mining, Data Science), Mathematics, Physics, Statistics, Operations Research, Electrical & Computer Engineering
We do not require you have all of the below, this will support with which team you are most suited towards.
- Have proven theoretical understanding various machine learning topics like Regression, Naïve Bayes, Gradient Boosting, Random Forests, SVMs, Neural Networks.
- We would like to see experience with statistical computing environments such as R, scikit-learn, SparkML, Python (pandas) etc.
- Have solid understanding and experience in one or more database technologies, including SQL and other relational databases, no-SQL, and Time Series databases
- Understand distributed file systems, scalable datastores, distributed computing and related technologies (Spark, Hadoop, etc.); implementation experience of MapReduce techniques, in-memory data processing, etc.
- Natural Language AI related research and experience (NLP, Speech recognition,etc.)
- Familiarity with cloud computing, AWS specifically, in a distributed computing context.
- Familiarity with some of the following: Spark/PySpark, MLlib, TensorFlow, Keras, PyTorch, Caffe, Python ML libs (Pandas, Matplotlib, Scipy, Sklearn, Numpy etc)
- Must-have: Scala and/or Python, SQL.
- Nice-to-have: Java, R, C++, Hive, Hadoop, Microsoft SQL Server
- Effective communication and the ability to engage with a variety of partners (e.g., internal, external, technical, non-technical people)
