Job description
Life as a Software Engineer is all about creating products using cutting edge tech. As an Industrial Placement student, you’ll work in one of Experian’s business areas, gain exposure to aspects of the Software Development lifecycle and help to build products for the future.
Working with our supportive and collaborative teams, you’ll have the opportunity to learn and develop key skills over the course of your placement. Typically, you’ll spend most of your day coding and problem solving; working with your team to design and implement new features. For this particular role, you could be working with coding languages such as Java, Javascript, Python and C# amongst others.
Whilst coding is an important part of being a Software Engineer, at Experian the job is so much more than that. In this role, you’ll usually start the day with a team stand up, discussing the project the team is currently working on, any blockers that may have arisen and planning the day ahead. You can also expect to be brainstorming and developing solutions with your team, which is why we’re looking for students who are curious, passionate about what they do and excited to try new technologies!
Strong communication and problem-solving skills are important throughout this industrial placement, as well as a keenness to learn and work in a highly collaborate environment.
Innovation is at the centre of everything we do. We understand that great ideas come from great people, and great people thrive when they’re trusted to challenge, change, improve, and perfect our products and processes. If you want to apply your technical skills to real-world scenarios and help Experian unlock new opportunities for our clients and consumers, then this is the industrial placement for you!
If you choose to join us, you can expect industry training, wide-reaching career opportunities and a wealth of support through our Early Careers Network, buddy, line manager & mentor scheme.
Our concept is simple. We believe in expanding horizons – it’s what makes Experian a global leader and a Top UK Tech Employer.
Qualifications
To apply for this opportunity, you must be able to undertake a year in industry placement as part of your undergraduate degree at a UK university and be on track to graduate in 2025. The industrial placement will start in July 2023 and end in August 2024.
Due to the technical nature of the role, we’re looking for students with a passion for technology and some experience in coding. In most cases, our Software Engineering Placement Students will be studying towards a Bachelor’s Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computing or related course which contains programming modules. If you are studying towards another STEM subject but can demonstrate your ability to write good quality code, then we’d still love to hear from you.
We look for driven, reliable students eager to take on real responsibility. Logical thinking, good communication skills and a thirst for learning are key to the role!
