    Department: Technology and Business
Location: Kingswood, Surrey OR London EC4M 5AB
    Duration: 12 Months

    Who we are

We’ve been helping clients plan and save for their futures for over 50 years. From more than 25 locations around the world, we provide investment services and retirement expertise to everyone from central banks to private individuals.

As part of our commitment to making things better, we’re continually exploring technology and different ways of working to put our clients first. Technology and Digital here isn’t just changing how we provide services – it’s changing everything.

    The programme you’ll join

We don’t expect you to come straight in and know everything about what we do.

As an industrial placement student, and whatever you’re studying, we’ll help make sure you get the most out of your time with us. Fidelity is a fantastic place to learn, innovate and grow. There are expert colleagues around the world to learn from and share ideas with.

Our expert Technology team empower our people and support our progress all around the world. They develop the applications and infrastructure that underpin everything from trading and operations to compliance and customer service. And they’re always searching for new and better ideas.

During the 12-month Industrial Placement programme - Business Analyst stream, you will help to connect the worlds of technology and business. If you are successful, you could join one of the following teams:

    Architecture

    • Architects ensure that change is in line with our organisation’s defined architectural roadmap - “doing the right things and doing things in the right way”. Architects are not focused on a specific business area but work across the organisation - the large global team covers both business-focused and technology-focused architectural decision-making. This could include projects such as changing our business processes and technology systems to be able to offer new investment solutions to clients.
    • In this role, you will learn about the impacts of changes on a complex technology ecosystem, including considering how those changes can be delivered in the best way to help us better serve our clients. Our environment is constantly evolving - a successful architect is an adaptable self-starter, who is not afraid of the unknown and is able to be persistent in using critical thinking skills and curiosity to learn about a new area.
    • As well as a proactive approach, this role requires investigative and analytical skills to gain an understanding of the different technologies we use, the areas of our business, their processes and how those processes are supported by our technology ecosystem. The role is very collaborative and requires collaborating with other architects, development teams and the wider business stakeholders across all regions of the globe.

    Technology-Business Analyst

    • In this role, you will develop a deep understanding of our inhouse software and check that any modification we make is understood and meets the needs of our stakeholders, before facilitating and landing changes.
    • To be successful, you’ll need to utilise strong problem-solving skills and collaboration to find solutions to the business’ problems and help implement enhancements to our systems and processes and establish better links between our teams.
    • You’ll need to develop strong relationships with our business teams to learn more about the challenges they and our clients are facing. You will use your analytical skills to translate these issues and communicate clear requirements for our engineering teams.

    The difference you’ll make

You’ll contribute to positive, meaningful work that make a difference to our clients and employees. You’ll provide invaluable support to your team, too. This may include:

    • Working with a central architecture function to undertake research and create artefacts or documents that support global Technology development teams in managing change (across front-office areas such as portfolio management, research, sustainable investing, and middle and back-office functions such as risk and fund accounting).
    • Learning how to use enterprise architecture tools to develop diagrams and roadmaps that are used for steering audiences in their decision-making about future technology change.
    • Learning about data architecture/data models and API strategy.
    • Capturing information to help provide transparency and identify gaps or areas of improvement.
    • Understanding and supporting how technology strategy and change works in practice in a large global organisation in a highly regulated and competitive industry.
    • Building strong relationships with key stakeholders, including technology delivery teams, change management teams, external suppliers and vendors, financial forecasting, communications, risk and audit, and business users.
    • Engaging key business stakeholders and Technology colleagues to understand key business problems and identify and create the right solutions.
    • Supporting team activity through project management, meeting management and documentation, and reporting. Successfully capture issues, enhancements, and action points, and maintain documentation to provide transparency and maintain the knowledge base.
    • Supporting the team of highly skilled engineers that are building our future technology estate.

    How you’ll be supported

You’ll start with a welcome and an orientation, where you’ll meet your fellow Industrial Placement students and find out all about us and our work. After that, there are many more ways to develop your skills as your placement progresses including completing of Unit 1 of the Investment Operations Certificate (IOC).

Once the programme begins, you’ll learn every day – from the experts around you and through tackling real projects. Our focus will be on supporting you to gain experience and discover what kind of future you could build in our industry.

Support is part of our culture, so you’ll have a buddy and a mentor to help you whenever you need. And you’ll join a close-knit early careers community, with plenty of social and networking events to help you find your feet and feel at home.

    What we look for

It’s who you are that matters here, rather than what you studied.

We look for interns who are analytical, eager to learn and ready to take on a challenge. A genuine curiosity and eagerness to learn about technology is vital, as is a lively interest in our work and our industry. Creative thinking and the ability to build and develop relationships with colleagues is important too.

We welcome applications from students from ALL degree backgrounds; you do not need a technology related degree. If you’re inquisitive and ambitious, a placement at Fidelity is a great opportunity to discover whether this kind of work is for you.

And, as we’re an international organisation, we’ll need you to speak English.

    We’ll also need you to

    • be graduating in 2026 (Bachelor’s or Master’s degree)
    • have the right to work in the UK at point of application. If you are currently on a Tier 4 / Student Visa, this means you have the right to work in the UK

Our clients come from all walks of life and so do we.  We are proud of our inclusive culture and encourage applications from the widest mix of talent, whatever your age, gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identity, social background and more.

As a flexible employer, we trust our people to perform their role in the way that works best for them, our clients, and our business. We are a disability-friendly company and would welcome a conversation with you if you feel you might benefit from any adjustments to perform to the best of your ability during the recruitment process and beyond.

    Future opportunities

During your time with us you’ll get to learn even more about what you enjoy, what you’re great at, and how to choose a career path that suits you. All 2024 Technology Industrial placement students will be considered for a place on our 2026 Technology graduate scheme.
