Who we are
We’ve been helping clients plan and save for their futures for over 50 years. From more than 25 locations around the world, we provide investment services and retirement expertise to everyone from central banks to private individuals.
As part of our commitment to making things better, we’re continually exploring technology and different ways of working to put our clients first. Technology and Digital here isn’t just changing how we provide services – it’s changing everything.
The programme you’ll join
We don’t expect you to come straight in and know everything about what we do.
As an industrial placement student, and whatever you’re studying, we’ll help make sure you get the most out of your time with us. Fidelity is a fantastic place to learn, innovate and grow. There are expert colleagues around the world to learn from and share ideas with.
Our expert Technology team empower our people and support our progress all around the world. They develop the applications and infrastructure that underpin everything from trading and operations to compliance and customer service. And they’re always searching for new and better ideas. During the 12-month Industrial Placement programme - Engineering stream, you’ll work in the following team:
Global Cyber and Information Security – Engineering Team
- The Global Cyber & Information Security (GCIS) function operates enterprise security services and controls that are designed to mitigate Cyber and Information Security risks, enabling the business to operate securely.
- The Security Engineering team is responsible for supporting multiple Security services consumed by other technology teams and also delivering automation capability for the other GCIS function teams.
- In this role, you’ll be required to collaborate with stakeholders across the organisation as well as supporting our engineers with delivery. A successful intern will have a strong commercial and technical perspective, and be adept at picking up new systems and processes and learning new ideas. We look for proactive self-starters, who enjoy problem solving.
The difference you’ll make
You’ll contribute to positive, meaningful work that make a difference to our clients and employees. You’ll help our clients invest and plan for the futures they want, or help to protect the services that underpin our business. You’ll provide invaluable support to your team, too. You will:
- Develop an understanding of multiple Cyber Security domains, such as Customer Protection, Enterprise Identity, Cyber Assurance, Cyber Defence Operations and Information Security.
- Identify opportunities to automate manual processes through engineering and integration of Services.
- Work in Agile Scrum team to support delivery of sprint Goals as prioritised by the Product Owner.
- Develop Cloud based solutions using principals of Infrastructure as Code (IaC).
- Support operational responsibilities for GCIS shared services ensuring continued operational excellence.
- Deliver high quality solutions using the principal of Continuous Integration / Continuous Delivery.
- Support enhancements and new features for GCIS Services Portal.
How you’ll be supported
You’ll start with a welcome and an orientation, where you’ll meet your fellow Industrial Placement students and find out all about us and our work. After that, there are many more ways to develop your skills as your placement progresses including completing of Unit 1 of the Investment Operations Certificate (IOC).
Once the programme begins, you’ll learn every day – from the experts around you and through tackling real projects. Our focus will be on supporting you to gain experience and discover what kind of future you could build in our industry.
Support is part of our culture, so you’ll have a buddy and a mentor to help you whenever you need. And you’ll join a close-knit early careers community, with plenty of social and networking events to help you find your feet and feel at home.
What we look for
It’s who you are that matters here, rather than what you studied.
We look for interns who are analytical, eager to learn and ready to take on a challenge. A genuine curiosity and eagerness to learn about technology engineering is vital, as is a lively interest in Cyber Security. Problem solving, creative thinking and the ability to build and develop relationships with colleagues is important too.
We welcome applications from students from ALL degree backgrounds; you do not need a technology related degree. If you’re inquisitive and ambitious, a placement at Fidelity is a great opportunity to discover whether this kind of work is for you.
And, as we’re an international organisation, we’ll need you to speak English.
We’ll also need you to
- be graduating in 2026 (Bachelor’s or Master’s degree)
- have the right to work in the UK at point of application. If you are currently on a Tier 4 / Student Visa, this means you have the right to work in the UK
Our clients come from all walks of life and so do we. We are proud of our inclusive culture and encourage applications from the widest mix of talent, whatever your age, gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identity, social background and more.
As a flexible employer, we trust our people to perform their role in the way that works best for them, our clients, and our business. We are a disability-friendly company and would welcome a conversation with you if you feel you might benefit from any reasonable adjustments to perform to the best of your ability during the recruitment process and beyond.
