About this role
We are looking for an entry to mid-level Competition Economist to join our team on a 12-month fixed term basis. Our economic consultants work in project teams to combine their economics knowledge with data analysis to produce specialised consulting reports for our clients.
This role can be based in New York, London, Madrid or Rome.
Key responsibilities
Some notable responsibilities will depend on experience but may include:
- Analysing new cases and determining the appropriates tests and approaches to employ
- Conducting detailed statistical analysis of market manipulation allegations as part of the delivery of Fideres’ expert consulting mandates
- Writing comprehensive reports that summarize the key findings of our analysis in a simple, succinct manner
- Verbally presenting key findings to clients in a manner that allows them to understand both the results and how they impact their own clients
- Depending on experience, running meetings and presentations with some supervision
- Responding to client requests in a timely and helpful fashion
- Remaining on top of any changes to work scopes, deadlines, etc.
- Keeping on top of market developments to generate new case ideas
- Maintaining accurate records of all billable hours spent on each project
Key skills and attributes
The successful candidate will have:
- Masters in Economics or the equivalent qualification, with evidence of knowledge and study of competition economics. A PhD in Economics would be highly desirable
- Knowledge of key competition economics topics
- The ability to write insightful reports, in particular the ability to express (verbal and written) complex issues in simple terms, understandable by non-specialists
- Strong analytical skills, able to get to the core issue of complex problems
- Competence in at least one data analysis software, either Python or R
- Integrity, and a creative, curious mind
- Strong PC skills including Microsoft Office, in particular Excel, Word and PowerPoint, and Bloomberg
- Lots of initiative and consistently looking to improve processes
- Responsive to client needs and able to deliver solutions that meet those needs
- Focused on delivery and committed to seeing projects through to their close
- Not afraid to express an opinion and offer new solutions
