At the FCA, we regulate the conduct of nearly 50,000 businesses in the UK to ensure that our financial markets are honest, competitive and fair. Our ambition is to become a more innovative, more assertive and more adaptive regulator; one that fully capitalises on data and technology, ensures consumer protection and market integrity, and responds well to the challenges we face.
We’re looking for graduates to join our diverse and highly capable teams across the FCA.
About the programme
Programme length
- Two years
Programme type
- Rotational
Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) issues are at the heart of what we, the industry and broader society care about. The financial sector has an important role to play in helping the economy adapt to a more sustainable long-term future, but creating positive, sustainable change isn’t just about climate change, it’s about looking beyond and considering the wider environmental issues, such as biodiversity and nature, as well as social and governance issues, such as diversity and inclusion, remuneration and incentives, the living wage, fair taxation, and supply chains. For the financial sector to successfully support the transition to a more sustainable future, market participants need high quality information and clear standards, and consumers need to be able to rely on firms to take ESG seriously and deliver on their promises.
The FCA’s ESG Division is responsible for developing and coordinating the delivery of the FCA’s ESG Strategy, which spans the FCA’s roles as both a regulator and an operating entity. The work of the ESG Division includes policy development, analysing market intelligence, influencing and contributing to Government, industry and international initiatives on ESG, and embedding ESG considerations across all of the FCA’s functions. As a graduate in the ESG Division, you will have the opportunity to work across these different areas. You will also have the opportunity to complete a rotation outside of the ESG Division.
Learning and development
As a graduate in ESG, you’ll have the opportunity to study towards an Apprenticeship, Professional Qualification or enrol on a development pathway relevant to your graduate programme. We will also give you the support you need to develop your career at the FCA.
What we look for
Our staff have diverse backgrounds, and no specific degree stands out as being essential for the ESG programme. You’ll learn a lot on the job, so we don’t expect you to have a detailed regulatory knowledge, however, you should have an interest in ESG and sustainable finance issues. You’ll also need to be strategically minded, great at building strong relationships at all levels and be able to influence and persuade.
