For the newly launched Business Unit (BU) English & Crystal Brands, we are looking for an enthusiastic Technical Product Design Intern to join our Design Team, based in Staffordshire, lasting up to 6 months on a full-time basis.

    The role

    As a Technical Product Designer Intern, you will become a part of our design team and participate in daily activities, supporting and learning from skilled and knowledgeable colleagues. You will develop and apply your technical skills working on design concepts across various materials and product categories, with a particular focus on Waterford.

    Role responsibilities

    • Supporting designers during Ideation Design phase, transforming sketches into 3d CAD models
    • Research & Development. Identifying existing shape and tooling opportunities from the brands archive and portfolio to assist in reinterpretation for new concepts.
    • Preparation of early product design content for feasibility discussions with supply chain
    • Supporting designers in manufacturing meetings throughout the design phase
    • Assisting designers in creating renderings including material finishes and surface treatment.
    • Creating initial sketch prototypes and preparing 3D CAD surfaces for rapid prototyping
    • Generating technical drawings and supporting 3D data in the preparation of creating costing specification documentation for clear communication with supply chain
    • Creating final technical specifications for manufacturing purposes
    • Reviewing and commenting on manufacturing counter drawings
    • Reviewing initial Product Samples and supporting to generate feedback and critiques.
    • Preparing product assets for IPR & packaging requirements

    Experience & capabilities

    • University degree in Design or another relevant course
    • Comfortable communicating with other stakeholders
    • Enjoy working as a team in a studio environment.
    • A good material understanding of glass, ceramics, metals & wood plus associated production processes is an advantage.
    • A good understanding of Rhino is essential.
    • A good understanding Adobe Illustrator & Photoshop
    • An understanding of Keyshot and Microsoft Office is a nice to have.
    • Proficient in spoken and written English.
