The role of a Trainee Solicitor

Our training contracts are firm wide and you will be expected to undertake at least one seat in a different office.  One of the traits of a good solicitor is the ability to cross-sell and this multi office approach allows you to build a strong foundation for when you qualify.  Furthermore, we are looking to develop you into a business advisor within one of our six key sectors and it is vital you have a breadth and depth of experience in order to achieve this.  Working across teams and offices will ensure you are successful.

As one of our trainees, you will have regular and open communication with your supervisors. You will get lots of exposure to high quality work, different situations, clients and to people within the firm who will help you to develop your legal and commercial expertise, in an environment that is friendly and supportive. We aim to recruit talented future solicitors and you will be given the opportunity to reach your full potential with us.

We can consider applications from 2021 onwards.

How do I apply?

There are two options, which are as follows:

Option 1 – The Vacation Scheme

The Vacation Scheme will take place during the week commencing 28 June 2021.  During the first four days with us, you will be immersed within a team and truly get to experience the work, culture and people in our firm and what we can offer you as a trainee solicitor to enable you to assess whether we are the right firm for you.  At the end of the week you will take part in an assessment day following which successful candidates will be offered a training contract with the firm.

The closing date for Vacation Scheme applications is 1 April 2021.

Option 2 – Training Contract Assessment Days

We appreciate that not everyone can or wishes to attend a Vacation Scheme.  We therefore offer two standalone Assessment Days which will be held in July 2021.  Candidates will undertake the same assessments as their counterparts on the Vacation Scheme following such successful candidates will be offered a training contract with the firm.

The closing date for the Training Contract Assessment Days is 1 June 2021.

Please note, you can only apply for a place on the Vacation Scheme or the Training Contract Assessment Days so think carefully about which is the right route for you.

The recruitment process

Within two weeks of the respective deadlines you will receive an update. After your application has been reviewed, if successful you will be invited to attend a Zoom interview with a member of the Recruitment Team. If you have demonstrated the potential we require you will then be invited to attend the Vacation Scheme or the Training Contract Assessment Day.

The application

The application is a two part process.  We want you to upload your CV, as we feel this will give you an opportunity to provide more information about yourself. You will also need to complete the application questions below, taking particular care over the three core questions which are designed to highlight your potential.

We were delighted to be awarded the National Equality Standard (NES) in April 2018.  Promoting diversity and inclusion is one of the cornerstones of our people strategy and we actively encourage applications from all suitably qualified people, regardless of any characteristics protected by law.
