People are at the very heart of what we do, they are the reason our clients trust us to help make their organisations secure, safe, sustainable and affordable.
We support our clients with some of their most complex challenges, making a difference by getting involved at all stages of the project lifecycle and doing the things which matter.
Team Information
Working together with our key client, we have enabled the UK nuclear power stations to safely operate beyond their original design lives and to continue producing 16% of the UK’s energy.
We are literally working to keep the lights on! We are looking for graduates who can help us continue to add value to projects that support the UK's nuclear power stations, both in their continued operation and beyond.
As many of the existing nuclear reactors prepare to end their generating lives, remove their nuclear fuel, and plan for decommissioning, there are exciting opportunities to work in this field, grow your career in a consultancy and take our business to new levels.
The groups also support clients across the wider nuclear industry including new build projects and small modular reactor design. These are important projects for supporting the country’s ambitions to reach Net Zero by 2050.
What you’ll be doing at Frazer-Nash?
We deliver high value consultancy services to a key civil nuclear client, working on projects that matter and which support the UK’s ambitions to achieve Net Zero by 2050.
Our growing groups undertake structural, fluid and reactor physics analysis, safety case production and substantiation, process engineering and general nuclear power station support.
We’re looking for placement year students to join us who have, and who wish to develop, skills that fit one or more of these areas and who can support a range of projects, some examples of which are given below:
- Using structural assessment techniques such as finite element modelling to determine if a nuclear component can safely continue in operation, and to work with the client to recommend alternative solutions if it is not;
- Walking down a system at a power station to identify potential hazards and then assessing the impact of the findings on the continued operation of the plant. Working with the regulatory body to ensure they approve of the way the hazards are controlled
- Developing software to analyse the movements of fuel within the reactor to ensure the fuel is used in the most efficient manner, thus minimising nuclear waste.
- Establishing the strategy for justification that a nuclear power station remains safe to continue operation;
- Justifying the removal of plant, systems and structures and their inspection routines to support safe, secure, cost effective defueling, in preparation for dismantling and decommissioning the UK fleet of gas cooled reactors.
By joining our growing business, you will have the opportunity to contribute to our success by being involved in the full life cycle of projects from concept phase and bidding, through project management and delivery, to project close out.
You will engage directly with the client during all project phases, and will be supported through training and mentoring tailored to your needs and experience.
The role involves some site based working (typically a power station or the client’s technical head office) and hence you must be willing to spend time on our client’s sites. This is an excellent opportunity to gain hands on plant experience and to thoroughly understand our client’s culture.
