The Electrical and Electronic Engineering Area of Frazer-Nash support our clients providing world leading design lifecycle support to their enterprise, equipment and plant operations.

Our electronics and embedded software engineers apply their technical skills to tackle problems on behalf of our clients; to take a systems view to consult and understand their needs and deliver sustainable and safe solutions that truly add value.
We typically work on high end engineering projects either within regulated industries, critical national infrastructure or where there is a real technology challenge such as safety system design or production of novel prototypes to demonstrate innovation.
Our Electronic and Embedded Software Engineers provide such services as – safety critical electronics design, rapid prototyping, control algorithm and real-time system development, model based systems design, FPGA and CPLD design and analysis, hardware in the loop systems, aging and obsolescence support, failure forensics and digital communications.
What you’ll be doing at Frazer-Nash?
Are you ready to apply and develop your electronic and embedded software engineering skills to solve our clients’ challenges?
Ohms Law doesn’t change from a nuclear powerplant to an autonomous electric vehicle; we deliberately do not silo or sectorise individuals, we look to take and develop their technical skills and support them to deliver solutions within the requirements of all sectors.
As a Frazer-Nash Electronics Engineer - Summer Intern 2023 you can expect to be tasked on real world problems from the get-go. You will be responsible for delivering technical tasks within projects, liaising and networking both internally with our technical teams and externally with clients.
You will be actively involved in all aspects of the project lifecycle, from eliciting our clients’ needs, through to developing a costed technical scope and programme, to the management and technical delivery of that scope. To give a flavour of our current electronic hardware and embedded software tasking:
- Development of a safety critical control system for next generation wind turbines
- Development of FPGA based pressurised water reactor control system
- Research into the reliability of programmable protection systems
- Realisation of a nuclear crane rope payout protection system software
- Hardware-in-the-Loop testing of “blackbox” unit replacements in support of obsolescence
- Development of a prototype Cubesat propulsion control system
We support these tasks collaboratively in a hybrid manner from our offices and laboratories, from client’s sites or working from home as determined by the task.

Essential Requirements
- Working towards a minimum 2:1 grade in an institution accredited degree in either Electronic Engineering, Computer Science or General Engineering.
- A passion for electronic engineering and how innovation can deliver a securer, safer, sustainable and affordable world.
- Good communication and openness to learn and develop your technical and consultative skills.
- Tenacity and determination to achieve an outcome and then build on it.
Desirable
- Industry (summer internship) experience in embedded software development/analogue and digital electronics.
- Application of technical and/or interpersonal skills beyond the university curriculum.
The nature of our work means that we sometimes require staff to access Government material, it is therefore necessary for all our employees to gain appropriate security clearance.
