    Fugro is expanding its Marine Environmental Consultancy Services division and as a result we are seeking all levels of Marine Environmental Consultants to join our talented team.     The role

    Fugro is the world’s leading global geo-data acquisition and consultancy company providing site investigation and consultancy services in support of sustainable coastal and offshore infrastructure projects around the world. The dedicated Environmental Consultancy Team provide bespoke advice to a diverse client base to ensure projects proceed in a compliant, environmentally responsible, and socially acceptable manner. The work is varied, primarily involving EIA and parallel assessments such as HRA and WFD in support of marine and coastal developments as well as valuable environmental research. This is an exciting opportunity to join a world class team, working on a wide range of projects from across the globe that will include offshore renewable energy projects, oil and gas as well as coastal development projects and subsea infrastructures.

    The role will be mainly office based, but occasionally may also involve travel in the UK and abroad.

    This job is for you if

    • You have a strong interest and understanding of the marine environment and the issues affecting it;
    • You have a background in environmental consultancy services or a related industry/government role, particularly pertaining to projects in the environmental impact assessment/management field;
    • You have an understanding of consenting processes relating to one or more marine industry sectors;
    • You have the ability to deliver high quality products to the client within contractually agreed time and costs;
    • You have good project management skills;
    • You have experience of working within the marine environmental legislative framework within the UK and/or abroad;
    • You can establish and maintain good working relationships with clients, collaborating companies and contractors;
    • You are well presented and confident and able to represent Fugro at meetings, events, etc;

    Who you’ll be working with

    You will join a growing consultancy team, based in Edinburgh and Portchester. You will work closely with all members of the environmental consultancy team and will also regularly interact with other Fugro departments around the world, supporting a wide range of multi-disciplinary projects.

    Here’s what a typical day would be like

    In this role you will get exposure to a wide variety of projects, deliverables and activities, including:

    • All aspects of Environmental Impact Assessment, including attending screening, scoping and other consultation meetings, ENVIDs, preparing Environmental Statements, commissioning and managing third party (modelling) studies and addressing client and stakeholder comments.
    • Preparing permit and consent applications for operations in the marine environment, for external clients, as well as for Fugro’s own (survey) operations.
    • Preparing and/or contributing to writing project proposals.
    • Direct contact with clients, contractors and regulators on a regular basis, regarding project work and to pursue new opportunities and future projects.
    • Providing training and industry advice by means of preparing desktop studies, guidance and policy documents and by presenting at workshops.

    Who we’re looking for

    Ideal candidates will meet the following criteria:

    • Educated to a minimum of degree level, preferably post-graduate in a marine science, environmental management or a related subject;
    • A background in environmental consultancy services or a related industry or government role, particularly for projects in the environmental impact assessment/management field;
    • Experience of working within marine environmental policy legislation within the UK and abroad, particularly with respect to marine licensing and management of offshore and coastal infrastructure;
    • Expertise in a marine environmental subject matter;
    • Experience of client representation at stakeholder and regulator workshops and consultation meetings;
    • Fluent written and oral English language skills.

    The following criteria would also be desirable

    • Background in the underwater sound propagation and the effects on marine life;
    • Numerical modelling experience;
    • Statistical data analyses;
    • Working knowledge using GIS;
    • Fluency in an additional language.
