We’re GCHQ, the UK’s intelligence, security, and cyber agency. We unlock the complex world of communications to safeguard the nation. Working closely with our partners in the intelligence community, we protect the country’s people, interests and businesses from threats including serious organised crime, terrorism, and cyber-attacks.
As part of our paid Language Talent Programme, you’ll play a key part in this mission. Over the course of 11 weeks, you’ll apply your language skills and cultural knowledge to a project analysing, transcribing, and translating materials. Using bespoke tools and techniques, you’ll assess data for intelligence value, you could also be involved in drafting intelligence reports or conducting research using a variety of tools. Your confidence and skills will grow as you provide colleagues with key information, deliver briefings, and help us fulfil our goals.
From day one you’ll receive dedicated support, with a comprehensive training and development package to further your language and analytical abilities. With guidance from trained professionals and mentors, you’ll learn every day as you work in a team of friendly, welcoming experts. At the end of the scheme, you’ll have the opportunity to apply for a permanent position as a Language Analyst (subject to current vacancies).
In return for your enthusiasm and talent, you’ll receive a salary of £25,290 (pro rata) as well as 5.5 days annual leave and access to on-site facilities. Ours is an open, inclusive workplace where you’ll find a range of sport, interest, and social clubs as well as a number of growing affinity groups including ethnic minority and gender equality networks, wellbeing, mental health, neurodiversity and disability groups, LGBTQ+ support groups and faith/no faith communities.
To join, you’ll need to be an undergraduate in your final year of university studying Mandarin, Russian and Turkish, or have graduated in the last 3 years with a 2:2 or higher. You don’t need to have a technical background, but you’ll be open to learning these skills. Most importantly, you’ll be someone with a genuine interest in developing a career in language – and who has an aspiration to work with us long term.
