We’re putting sustainability at the heart of what we do; driving our objective to becoming a net zero greenhouse gas emissions business before 2050!

    Our Global Technology Centre

Our new Global Technology Centre (GTC) in Filton, Bristol is a £32m state of the art technology research and development facility. It acts as a hub for world-class innovative technology for the next generation of fuel-efficient aircraft. It offers a collaborative space for research and development with universities, the UK’s CATAPULT network and GKN Aerospace’s UK supply chain, to help strengthen aerospace technology and support the UK’s Industrial strategy.

    Job Summary

For the third and consecutive year we have a number of internship opportunities supporting the development of Advanced Composite Processing, Methods & Development. Fuel your passion in making things fly by joining us at the cutting edge of the aviation industry and discover the future possibilities that await you.

    Project Summary

Working within this arena will give you the opportunity to become involved in either of the following 2 projects within the composites team:

Project 1 - Urban Air Mobility (UAM)

Lightweight aero-structures required for the emerging Electric Vertical Take-off and Landing (eVTOL) market. State of the art manufacturing technologies would be used to manufacture prototype aero-structure components to meet customer requirements & to form a basis for future technology developments.

Project 2 - Aerospace and Automotive Supply Chain Enabled Development (ASCEND)

ASCEND is a cross-sector composite Technology and Supply-Chain development programme, joining the Aerospace & Automotive supply chains and led by GKN Aerospace. It is a £39m, 3 year collaborative programme with 16 partners and is part funded by the Aerospace Technology Institute (ATI) that has been running since early 2021. ASCEND is focused on developing composite and adjacent technologies that will allow the UK aerospace & automotive industries to meet the future high-rate production manufacture needs of the growing civil aircraft & future mobility markets through Automation, design for Manufacture and Skills Development, whilst sustainably reducing the Cost of Manufacture and Carbon Footprint.
