Join us on an internship at GKN Aerospace and help shape the future of flight

    A Truly Global Business

Every day, around the world, we help aircrafts fly further, faster and greener. We’re the world’s leading tier one aerospace supplier of systems and components. With over 15,000 employees across 38 manufacturing sites in 12 countries serving over 90% of the world’s aircraft and engine manufacturers with sales of £2.8bn.

Together as “one GKN” we’re moving our business and industry forward developing technologies that rapidly decarbonise aircraft, and innovating to help build a new generation of aeroplanes that produce zero emissions. We’re putting sustainability at the heart of what we do; driving our objective to becoming a net zero greenhouse gas emissions business before 2050!

    Our Global Technology Centre

Our new Global Technology Centre (GTC) in Filton, Bristol is a £32m state of the art technology research and development facility. It acts as a hub for world-class innovative technology for the next generation of fuel-efficient aircraft. It offers a collaborative space for research and development with universities, the UK’s CATAPULT network and GKN Aerospace’s UK supply chain, to help strengthen aerospace technology and support the UK’s Industrial strategy.

    Job Summary

For the third and consecutive year we have an internship opportunity supporting our H2GEAR programme working for the fantastic teams that develop the technology - focused on electrical and electronic elements of the Powertrain. Fuel your passion in making things fly by joining us at the cutting edge of the aviation industry and discover the future possibilities that await you.

    About the Project

The H2GEAR (Hybrid Hydrogen Electrical Architecture) is a £54M, 5 year collaborative programme with 2 industrial and 3 academic partners part funded by the Aerospace Technology Institute. The programme aims to develop and deliver ground demonstration of a novel zero emission cryogenic hydrogen fuel powertrain suitable for future aircraft applications from 2030.

Our world class H2GEAR team of 50 lead the technology development and manage the system level integration at both aircraft level and main aircraft system level for the powertrain definition. The scope of the system starts with Liquid Hydrogen storage through to the electric motor for propulsion with the benefits of the novel electrical network stretching the performance to as yet, unrealised levels.
