    About the role

    Global Supply Chain (GSC) is the group within GSK that is responsible for making and supplying medicines and vaccines across the globe. At our manufacturing sites we produce over 2.3 billion medication packs and vaccines doses to 90% of the world's countries.

    We have several engineering placements available for talented engineers to support our engineering and manufacturing teams in a world class pharmaceutical factory and in our global headquarters. Roles may include some, or all the following:

    • Problem solving and continuous improvement work across a range of pharmaceutical production machinery and processes.
    • Identifying safety, quality and process performance and efficiency improvements through analysing machine data and audits.
    • Increasing and maintaining the reliability of our machines.
    • Providing day to day engineering support.
    • Assisting in all processes associated with implementing new processes and equipment.
    • Generating engineering documentation, change controls and production reports.
    • Taking responsibility for your own projects throughout the year.
    • Learning more about the varied role of engineering in the pharmaceutical industry.

    You will be applying the skills you already have and developing new skills such as team working, problem solving and building relationships. You will work with and learn from an experienced team of engineers; they will coach and mentor you during your year to help you achieve your full potential.

Please note, these are distinct placements and so when you apply you will be able to select preferences of where you would like to be placed if successful.     Role/Location 1: GSK House (London)

    The GSC Engineering and EHS group is mainly based at our global headquarters in Londin but can also count on the presence of people in our Global Supply Chain sites.

    The GSC Engineering & EHS Function is comprised of the following groups: Global Capital Projects, Engineering Technical Services, Serialisation- anti counterfeit measures, Environment Health and Safety and Automation. You will be based in Engineering Technical Services. We design standards and policies and provide technical expertise to support and align our GSC network with the intent to deliver more speed and efficiency

    During your time on placement, you will have the opportunity to:

    • Contribute to the deployment of a Machine Learning application to improve reliability of key manufacturing equipment in the Global Supply Chain Network
    • Contribute to the development and testing of digital twin application Proof of Concept (PoC) to support the manufacturing site engineering activities, such as maintenance.
    • Interact with the Global manufacturing network, liaising with industry expert engineers to deploy cutting edge digital application for GSK

    To be successful in this role you will need to have a passion for digital innovation and an interest in Machine Learning and/or Building Information Model (BIM) and Revit (Autodesk).

    Role/Location 2: Worthing

    GSK Worthing recently celebrated 60 years of manufacturing pharmaceutical products.  Our key product is an antibiotic, and we manufacture approx. 50 million packs per year supplying patients around the world. Our site is situated on the South Coast about 30 minutes from Brighton and 1 hour by train from London, offering a good degree of extracurricular activities outside of work.

    GSK Worthing has opportunities for engineering placement students to work with industry experts in our Environmental, Health, Safety and Sustainability (EHSS) and Continuous Improvement (CI) engineering teams.

    A placement student in EHSS will have the opportunity to lead continuous improvement initiatives in automation, data management, and developing dashboards for key performance indicators to give visibility of our performance across key business areas. There is a lot of variety within the role from formulating procedures that operate in line with company and legal standards to working within our committed team to delivering our 2030 sustainability ambition through projects related to energy management, waste reduction and water usage optimisation.

    A placement student in the CI engineering team will have the opportunity to pick up a wide variety of continuous improvement skills that can be applied to numerous positions during your career. During your time on placement, you will get the opportunity to get involved with end-to-end activities from warehousing, manufacturing, packaging, quality all the way to operations engineering. You will gain a strong understanding of lean manufacturing (GPS), continuous improvement mindset, and problem solving. You will also lead continuous improvement frameworks working with small functional teams across the site targeting top priority challenges and help train and coach others.
