Our approach to R&D focuses on science related to the prevention and treatment of disease with vaccines, specialty and general medicines. We focus on science of the immune system, human genetics and advanced technologies to impact health at scale. Our pipeline currently comprises of more than 60 vaccines and medicines across four core therapeutic areas including oncology, infectious diseases, immunology / respiratory and HIV. In the Global Health unit, our R&D is focused on infectious diseases (such as TB and malaria) that affect patients in low resource settings within lower income countries.
What you'll do
Our placement in Global Health allows you to be part of the Product Strategy and Access team, which develops and implements strategies to address unmet needs and make our medicines more accessible in developing countries by working in partnership with stakeholders across the Global Health spectrum. This placement allows you to dive straight into the business and take on your own responsibilities within the team’s various ongoing projects and focus areas.
During your placement you could be involved in a range of activities, such as:
- Project Management: helping to lead and deliver access and delivery strategies aligned to the GSK’s Global Health strategy.
- Data Analysis: of external insights to inform launch of Global Health innovations.
- Content Generation and Curation: creating proposals, presentations, blog posts, advocacy materials to enhance the engagement with and impact of GSK’s Global Health business critical outcomes.
- Collaboration: partner with a range of external Global Health stakeholders, NGOs and GSK colleagues from around the world to utilise a wide range of perspectives and insights to inform identification and execution of optimal tactics to support the access and delivery of medicines into low resource settings.
- Research support: literature searches and supporting the design and implementation of research projects and capability building activities in low- and middle-income countries.
You’ll be excited by the thought of
- Meeting with various internal and external partners to discuss research projects or current and future product development and access milestone targets on one day while on another day you might be drafting a proposal about a new tender which can improve access to a lifesaving medicine
- Enhancing your written and verbal communication, teamwork, and analytical skills, all while gaining a year of incredible work experience in one of the world’s leading pharmaceutical companies.
Who are we looking for?
You’ll need:
- To demonstrate passion for Global Health related matters
- To be motivated to learn about commercial ways of working of a pharmaceutical organization and to expand your knowledge of the pharmaceutical industry within a Global Health context
- To demonstrate good interpersonal skills with the ability to work within a multi-disciplinary team
- Good communication skills both written and verbal with experience of presenting information effectively to key stakeholders
- Competency with key software including Word, Excel and PowerPoint and additional experience using literature search engines would be beneficial
- To demonstrate good planning skills and the ability to work independently
- To demonstrate leadership (e.g. through work experience, voluntary work or university projects)
- To understand the value of social media (e.g. Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn) and other digital channels in creating awareness about public health matters
