    Global Supply Chain (GSC) is the group within GSK that is responsible for making and supplying medicines and vaccines across the globe. At our manufacturing sites we produce over 2.3 billion medication packs and vaccines doses to 90% of the world's countries.

    Your role as a materials scientist will be a technical lab-based role, which will give you valuable hands-on experience, working on a wide range of techniques to characterise the physical properties of Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs), excipients, drug products and / or finished products. You will be part of a multidisciplinary team of analytical scientists, material scientists, dosage form and particle sciences experts.

    Key roles and responsibilities

    • Supporting and leading business critical projects to assist the global GSK networkwith proactive and reactive work packages. These projects include material change programmes for security of supply, as well as Root Cause Analysis (RCA) investigations for manufacturing and quality issues.
    • Providing measurement of data, including interpretation, reporting, and presenting results to customers from other GSK sites globally on different dosage forms e.g., API powders, excipients, blends, granules, suspensions, tablets etc.
    • Gaining competency on a wide variety of physical property equipment and techniques, supporting small and large molecule products, such as Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Particle Size Distribution (PSD), X-ray Particle Diffraction (XRPD), Micro-Flow Imaging (MFI) etc.
    • Responsible for calibration and maintenance of laboratory equipment such as balances, safety cabinets, solvents, waste etc., ensuring quality and safety in all that we do.
    • Support of key safety metrics, departmental audits, continuous improvement, and sustainability projects

You will work with and learn from a world-class Analytical and Materials Science team.They will coach and mentor you during your year to help you achieve your potential.

    Role/Location: Ware

    Ware is the largest GSK site in the UK with a thriving early talent community, lots of social activities, and a warm and welcoming support network. The Ware Global Supply Chain (GSC) site has modern facilities, uses advanced technologies, and provides amazing development opportunities for future careers.  The site manufactures and supplies oral solid dose tablets (for HIV and oncology) and respiratory devices (for asthma and COPD) to over 140 countries across the world, as well as to patients participating in clinical trials, making a real difference to people’s lives. With a focus on new product introduction, it is a key site within the GSK network and an exciting place to work. Situated in the heart of Ware in Hertfordshire, the site has access to beautiful countryside as well as excellent transport links, being only 40 minutes away from London and Cambridge by train.

    Materials Science is a global technical team within MSAT (Manufacturing Science and Technology) based at the Ware site, supporting business critical projects not only for the Ware site, but other GSK sites globally.

    In this role, you will work in the Materials Science lab and gain competency on a wide variety of characterisation equipment and techniques. This will allow a broader understanding the physical property of materials, such as solid-state form, surface characterisation, bulk flow attributes, particle size and shape, imaging techniques etc.
