We’re looking for leaders of the future in Electrical Engineering

The aim of this programme is to develop the future pharmaceutical supply chain engineering, operational and technical leaders. 

Are you a highly capable Electrical Engineering graduate with the skills and passion to further develop your skills in a pharmaceutical manufacturing environment? From improving the systems we have, to designing new and more efficient electrical systems, as well as contributing to our environmental agenda through efficient energy management – you’ll be starting your career journey towards technical and/or operational leadership as well as being part of our talented engineering team, helping to deliver billions of packs of life saving medicines to patients and customers every year.

Over three years and three stretching rotations, our Future Leaders Programme will challenge and support you to grow professionally and personally. You’ll get to meet senior leaders and network with other graduates from across GSK. You’ll also receive a generous development budget to accelerate your learning. This all adds up to a role that’s designed to transform talented engineers into key, senior figures and to go onto lead in an engineering technical field or in manufacturing operations.  

What will you do?

As an Electrical Engineering graduate at GSK, you can expect to work on a wide range of activities including:

  • Support and lead electrical project work for pharmaceutical equipment from design through to project implementation. 
  • Work with mission critical power supplies to ensure our plant works effectively and efficiently so that our patients receive their medicine when they need it. 
  • Involved in asset management and maintenance (condition-based monitoring, predictive maintenance, data analysis etc). 
  • Involved in energy reduction, environmental sustainability and cost improvement projects. 
  • Learn more about our systems including high-voltage system operations. 
  • Trouble shoot day-to-day issues and breakdowns in our pharmaceutical plants,  
  • Help and support multi-skilled maintenance technicians, operators and apprentices. 
  • Coordinate recovery plans and work with multi-disciplinary teams to broaden experience.
  • Research & keep up to date with current industry best practice and emerging technologies – making recommendations to the business.
  • Use problem solving skills to analyse information and report on your findings 
  • Mentoring and support through to Chartered status with the IET  
  • A generous personal training budget to support your development.

You’ll need

  • A relevant Electrical Engineering degree and be keen to learn. 
  • The ability to work with and build relationships with key stakeholders 
  • To be a self-motivated and proactive graduate 
  • To be enthusiastic and driven to succeed. 
  • To be a natural team worker 
  • The ability to adapt to change and stay focused under pressure 
  • To be analytical and process driven with excellent attention to detail. 
  • Great communication skills and a gift for solving problems 
  • A genuine interest and passion for pharmaceutical manufacturing 

Education required

Degree in Electrical Engineering and or combined with electronic, Physics, Sustainability. Degree must be IET approved.

Preferred Modules would include Power modules, Power electronics, High voltage engineering, Condition based monitoring, Industrial management.

Other requirements

Willingness to be geographically mobile throughout rotations.

Our Future Leaders Programme is designed to accelerate the development of graduates who don’t have significant previous professional work experience in the area to which they are applying.  Of course, many graduates who join the programme have worked while studying or after graduation.  If you’ve already developed substantial experience working in a professional role in your sector, while you would be able to apply for this programme, you may also want to look at direct entry roles in our businesses, as these may be the best way to build on your existing skills and expertise and develop a career at GSK.
