    The Accounting department is looking to fill a number of permanent roles carrying out accounting and related tasks for Glencore’s UK-based Oil & Gas trading entities.

    The role

    The department is responsible for preparing the Financial Statements and Internal Management Accounts for a number of entities, whose principal activity is the marketing of Oil, LNG, NatGas, Power, and Environmental Products, within Glencore plc’s Oil Marketing segment. The department ensures the timely and accurate reporting of monthly management accounts to Head Office (enabling Group consolidation) and to London Management (enabling local decision-making). The team is also involved in various projects and development work, seeking to continuously improve the robustness of our control environment and efficiency of our processes.

    Whilst continuous training will be provided, the candidate should be a motivated self-starter who is keen to get involved and is able to work without close supervision. The successful candidates will be technically able and highly personable with a strong desire to achieve the highest standards. The roles require close collaboration with both other team members in the department, other functions, and colleagues in overseas offices to ensure that queries are resolved efficiently, and reporting deadlines are met.

    The roles are within highly flexible teams, able to adapt quickly to the changing demands of the business and constantly striving to provide more accurate, consistent and timely information to senior management, so flexibility and willingness to undertake new challenges are essential personal characteristics.

    Being a training role, the candidates should be studying or be keen to begin studying a recognised accounting qualification such as ACA, ACCA or CIMA.

    Key responsibilities may include

    • Intercompany reconciliations – reconciling and agreeing the intercompany balances
    • P/L and balance sheet reconciliations
    • Third party account matching – invoices and cash payments/receipts
    • Working with the Treasury Department and Front Office as necessary to assist in allocating cash
    • Analysing debtors and creditors (to include ageing analysis)
    • Booking month-end journals as required
    • Liaise with Auditors on both management and statutory audits
    • Liaison with UK, US, Swiss and Singapore staff
    • Contributing to management reports and analytics
    • Ad-hoc tasks as required.

    Skill Sets

    • Strong IT skills a necessity - in particular Excel
    • Strong interpersonal skills
    • A methodical approach coupled with the ability to evaluate and interpret data from a variety of sources is essential.

    Education & Experience Requirements

    • The successful candidate will have a degree (2:1 or above)
    • Early stages of ACCA, CIMA or ACA or keen to begin their professional qualification.
    • For roles within the trade accounting team academic or industry experience of the commodities we trade would be advantageous.
    • For roles within the financial reporting team academic or other experience of preparation of financial statements would be an advantage.
