This is a Gloucestershire County Council job.

    About the team and role

Gloucestershire County Council has a gross annual budget of over £1 billion and employs more than 3,000 people. Our challenge is to ensure all funds are spent as efficiently and effectively as possible maximising the value to frontline services.

Our graduate scheme will develop your leadership and expertise to provide sound financial management and advice that is critical to effective local government. Our previous graduate trainees have risen successfully within the organisation, either staying within finance or moving to senior posts in other departments. Quotes from our previous graduates include:

The Graduate Finance Trainee scheme is an excellent door into the world of public finance, enabling me to achieve my professional accountancy qualification whilst working in a supportive, challenging, and rewarding environment.

The Finance graduate scheme offered me the opportunity to work across all areas of Local Authority finance, allowing me to develop a deep understanding and wide range of skills, whilst learning what areas I enjoyed the most. The team was welcoming, encouraging and I was always pushed to achieve my best and challenge myself.

    What we need from you

You will be graduating in 2024, or will have graduated in the previous two years, with a 2:1 in any discipline.

You will have a real desire to work in the public sector and the ambition to make a difference to the organisation. Your ability to analyse information, problem solve and challenge the norm will be complemented by your ability to engage with people and build good working relationships.

    What you’ll get in return

You can expect to be consistently well supported within a structured programme of development with placements across a range of finance functions and service areas. We aim for our training scheme to be one of the best in local government and you will be supported financially to achieve the public sector professional accountancy qualification (CIPFA) over a 3 year period. You will be able to work flexibly in a hybrid working environment.

    Additional information

Gloucestershire County Council is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people or vulnerable adults and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

We want to be an employer of choice, attracting and retaining excellent people to work for us, so that we can best serve all of Gloucestershire’s diverse communities. Our promise to you is that we will provide an inclusive and supportive working environment that enables you to bring your whole self to work and realise your full potential.

It is a legal requirement, under the Immigration Act 2016, that anyone appointed to a ‘customer facing role’ must be able to demonstrate an ability to fulfil all spoken aspects of the role with confidence in fluent English.

Hybrid working arrangements are available for the majority of our roles, giving teams the opportunity to work in a way that suits them, balancing service need and individual choice, with a mix of both remote and office working.
