Job description
We are looking for an Assistant Buyer to join our team on a 12 month Fixed Term Contract. Gousto is on a mission to become the UK’s most loved way to eat dinner. As assistant buyer you will play a key role in supporting our objective by developing a deep understanding of our customers, products and supply chain; so you can support the procurement of quality fresh produce and other ingredients cost effectively. In addition you will have the opportunity to manage the procurement of some smaller categories.
You will need to understand the supply chain and product life cycle of the product you work with and continually work on improving your product knowledge. Working cross functionally with our recipe team, menu planning and food tech to deliver the best ingredients to meet our customers needs. At the same time, ensuring we are meeting our financial and operational objectives.
What you’ll do
Supplier Management & Tenders
- Support the Lead Category / Category Buyers with the implementation of strategic plans and buying initiatives.
- Source & analyse internal and external information to support negotiations.
- Manage the tender process for your own product categories.
- Use your analytical skills to model and analyse data to determine the impact upon Gousto including cost reviews.
- Support the team through the tender process by working cross functionally to ensure the correct legal documentation is in place and food technical have necessary information to approve products.
- Review supplier SOTIF data on a weekly basis and agree necessary corrective actions with the suppliers. Develop supplier improvement plans in line with SLA.
Cross-team Collaboration
- Ensure we have the latest insight into product quality and availability to ensure we are meeting out customer expectations. Communicating this information to the appropriate teams.
- Work with ingredients and menu planning to manage availability across the supplier base to ensure we have the ingredients we need at the right time.
- Assist planning, buying and food technical by maintaining key business systems.
- Support recipe developers in the sourcing of new ingredients.
- Work with ingredients planning and finance to resolve supplier invoice queries.
- Support buying, food tech and operational excellence teams on improving reducing customer OTIF by reviewing data and working across functionally to find solutions to ensure our ingredients arrive with our customers in optimal condition.
- Working with the buyers to update supplier forecasts and analyse contract uptake. Communicating any issues to the relevant team.
External Communications
- Ensure suppliers are aware of Gousto demand forecast and any specific menu activities.
- Be able to confidently challenge suppliers in a calm & considered manner within the required time frame.
Who you are
- Ideally to have knowledge of food manufacturing and / or fresh produce.
- Experience of working in a commercial environment within procurement / planning / sales.
- Good commercial acumen.
- Good numeracy and data analysis skills. Have the ability to use advanced excel functions e.g. pivot tables.
- Strong communication and relationship building skills.
- Be brilliant at looking at detail and highly organised.
- You must have the ability to work in a fast paced environment and be able to juggle multiple tasks at the same time.
- Strong attention to detail and obsessed with quality.
- Collaborative / stakeholder management skills.
Qualifications
- Ideally a degree but not essential, depending upon experience.
- English & Maths GCSE or equivalent.
