    We are now looking for an Assistant Travel Editor (9 month fixed term contract or staff secondment). You'll commission travel features and news stories, covering hard hitting topics like the climate crisis and its impact on the travel industry, to reviewing some of the must-see cities around the world.

    About the role

    • Commission and write news stories at short notice with quick turnaround
    • Research and commission travel features
    • Assist in the smooth running of the travel desk
    • Commission multi-media story forms such as photo essays and audio features
    • Nurture relationships with columnists and outside contributors

    About you

    • Experience of editing and commissioning for a national or international news publication or respected magazine or website
    • Understanding of the purpose and aims of the Guardian's travel journalism, and a wide knowledge of and interest in travel
    • Good understanding of the Guardian's digital approach to journalism
    • Knowledge and appreciation of Guardian style
    • Ideally, you'll have a demonstrable ability to bring a diverse perspective to this role
