About the role

Working as part of our experienced Drainage team, you will support the design, planning, and delivery of a wide range of civil engineering projects – from highway drainage systems and flood alleviation schemes to SuDS (Sustainable Drainage Systems) and climate resilience infrastructure.

  • ONC/HNC in constructive environment or Degree in a relevant environmental subject

Purpose of the post

Responsibility for functions

To acquire and maintain an up to date knowledge of:-

  • current best practice in design issues
  • technical standards and developments (including current technology),and professional and statutory responsibilities (including e.g. those underthe Health and Safety at Work etc. Act, 1974, Wildlife & Countryside Act 1982, Habitat Regulations 1994 and appropriate Regulations e.g. CDM regulations) and of their application relevant to the work and functions being carried out.
  • To control subordinate staff.
  • To deputise for the immediate superior in his/her absence.
  • Ensure that YGC meets the requirements of the Council.
  • To ensure that all staff timesheets and approvals are completed in accordance with YGC procedures.
  • The post holder is expected to be aware of the requirements of Health and Safety and to collaborate with YGC’s Health and Safety representative.
  • Responsibility for information management in accordance with the Council's information management standards and guidelines. Ensure that personal information is handled in compliance with Data Protection legislation.

Main duties

  • develop and maintain a practical and professional relationship withclients.
  • to assist engineering and technical staff in completing projects including a range of technical administrative and drawing office duties commensurate with the individual postholder’s level of training, experience and competence
  • To complete Highways Infrastructure Inspection, Assessment and Maintenance work
  • The supervision of financial, administrative and technical control of Works of construction, investigation, assessment or maintenance executed on behalf of the Client.
  • Ensure that projects comply with health and safety and Environmental legislation and regulations.
  • To assist in the Supervision of works on construction sites when required and to undertake delegated responsibilities and duties accordingly
  • To operate computer systems and software. Assist in the development of software systems within YGC.
  • To liase with other services, statutory undertakers, other authorities, external organisations, and individuals concerning all aspects of the works
  • To report to, and receive instructions from, Senior staff, both regularly and as necessary to ensure proper progress of the work
  • To supervise and guide the work and development of subordinate staff
  • Other relevant administrative and technical duties commensurate with the seniority of the post.
  • Responsibility for self-development.
  • Ensure compliance with Health and Safety rules in the workplace in accordance with the responsibilities noted in the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and the Council’s Health and Safety Policy.
  • Operate within the Council’s policies in relation to equal opportunities and equality.
