Hawkins Wright Ltd is an independent UK based consultancy providing market intelligence and business information services to the international pulp, paper and bioenergy industries. These services include private consultancy assignments covering a full range of marketing and strategic subjects as well as regular multi-client reports and newsletters.
Job Description
We are currently recruiting a Market Analyst to cover developments within the international pulp, paper and wood fibre markets. As a primary responsibility, you will manage and support the production of industry reports that provide supply, demand, cost and price analysis. The analyst will also help maintain and expand Hawkins Wright’s contact base and represent the company at industry events across the world. At times, the analyst may also provide support to Hawkins Wright’s biomass team.
Candidates should possess excellent writing skills, preferably with previous experience in business journalism and/or data analysis. Candidates must also have strong mathematical and computing skills, showing competence with analysing datasets in Microsoft Excel. Fluency in English is essential and it would preferable to have prior experience within a commodity-based industry.
Key Responsibilities
- Produce commentaries on market developments, analysis and market outlooks; develop graphs and charts within Excel to illustrate trends and analysis; to present back to Hawkins Wright team and clients
- Work with and interview industry participants to research industry trends.
- Develop and maintain rapport with key contacts, and liaise regularly with industry stakeholders (buyers, sellers, traders, agents, logistical service providers) to gain market intelligence.
- Develop new contacts within the market
- Maintain existing Excel databases and build new databases.
- Work on special projects as needed.
- Participate in conferences and events (frequent international travel required).
Skills and Experience
- A graduate with strong degree, preferably in economics or business journalism.
- Ability to develop, source and write industry relevant news and analysis to deadlines. Ability to write with flair and clarity for a global audience.
- Knowledge of the global forest products sectors useful but not essential.
- Excellent writing, grammar and numeracy skills (these will be tested as part of the interview process).
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to network with industry executives.
- Ability to work effectively with colleagues and meet targets in a fast-paced deadline-driven environment.
- Proficiency working with Excel-based analytical tools.
- Self-motivation and initiative to drive projects forward with the ability to meet tight deadlines.
- A proven track record of setting high editorial standards.
- Willingness to travel to meetings and events globally
