Hiscox Re & ILS

Hiscox Re & ILS (Insurance Linked Securities) is made up of our underwriting platforms in Bermuda and London, writing reinsurance risks around the world. The team is committed to providing top quality service to brokers and clients across a broad range of reinsurance products. We protect our clients’ assets against natural and man-made disasters, covering everything from earthquake and hurricane damage to cyber and terror attacks around the world. Our approach is simple, we set out to partner with our customers to help solve the problems that will deliver real value; and have an unwavering focus on matching the right blend of innovation and dependability to meet our customers’ ever evolving needs. Our focused and discerning underwriting approach is complemented by a commitment to world class service, and the ability to offer creative solutions to complex problems.

The Opportunity

During your Actuarial Analytics internship, you’ll spend your time with us in the reinsurance analytics team.  As a market leading reinsurer, we have a need to have a clear understanding of what drives our risk and where we could expand our presence in the market. You will have the opportunity to work on a number of projects that will advance our understanding of risks. This may include building algorithms to correlate seemingly unconnected events, developing machine learning techniques to overlap exposures, and creating statistical frameworks to capture key risk metrics. This work will be in conjunction with actuaries, catastrophe and capital modellers, I.T. developers and underwriting teams across London and Bermuda. The role will have great exposure to leaders and experts across Hiscox Re & ILS and you will get a real insight into the workings of a reinsurance business. The output of the work will be used in front-end systems that will make a real world difference to how we do business.

Although we’re hoping that we’ll be back in the office in summer 2021, nothing is guaranteed in the current climate and interns need to be flexible, adaptable, and willing to rise to the challenge. We anticipate that an Actuarial Analytics internship will be available in London but we may need to convert it to a remote experience.

You will hear from us within two weeks of submitting your application. Final stage interviews will be held in March.

Applications for the internship scheme will close on 22nd January at 10am GMT. However, should we experience a high volume of interest, we may close applications earlier and would recommend that you submit your application for this scheme as soon as possible.
